Irwin8 unto the sons of Merari. Double the number was given to the Merarites, because their charge consisted of the bulkier and heavier parts of the tabernacle. See on iv. 33.
10 for dedicating of the altar. Rather, “the dedication-gift of the altar” (R.V.); i.e., a gift for its consecration.
11 each prince on his day. Hebrew, “one prince a day, one prince a day”; an expressive repetition.
13 a hundred and thirty [shekels]. About five pounds.—shek of the sanctuary. The shekel used as a standard of weight in respect of all holy things.
16 sin offering. It is observable that these offerings were accompanied by all the ordinary kinds of sacrifices, including a sin offering.
89 when Moses was gone. This seems to be a general statement, not referring to any particular time; “when Moses went” (R.V.).
