One of Whom Paul the apostle speaks highly, Rom. 16. 3 - 5. It is probable that this is the same person spoken of by the same apostle, 2 Tim. 4: 19. It should seem tint she and her husband Aquila, had offered their house for worship. What a lovely view of saints of God!
a Christian woman, well known in the Acts, and in St. Paul’s epistles; sometimes placed before her husband Aquila. From Ephesus this pious pair went to Rome, where they were when St. Paul wrote his epistle to the Romans, A.D. 58. He salutes them the first of all, with great commendations, Rom 16:3. They returned into Asia sometime afterward; and St. Paul, writing to Timothy, desires him to salute them on his behalf, 2Ti 4:19, A.D. 65.
Diminutive of Prisca.
When the Bible mentions the husband and wife team of Aquila and Priscilla (or Prisca), it usually mentions Priscilla first (Act 18:26; Rom 16:3; 1Ti 4:19). This is unusual, but the Bible gives no reason for such usage. Perhaps Priscilla was more active or more prominent than Aquila in the Christian work in which they were constantly and wholeheartedly engaged. (For details see AQUILA.)
