1While Ezra prayed and made this confession, weeping and falling facedown before the house of God, a very large assembly of Israelites—men, women, and children—gathered around him, and the people wept bitterly as well.
“Now, when Ezra had prayed, when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children, for the people wept very…”
“now when Ezra had prayed and when he had confessed weeping and casting himself down before the house of God. There assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children for the people wept very…”

“now, when Ezra had prayed, when he had confessed, weeping, casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children, for the people wept very…”
“Now while Ezra was praying and while he was confessing, weeping and bowing down before the house of God, a very large assembly of men, women and children gathered to him and Israel, and the people wept bitterly.”
2Then Shecaniah son of Jehiel, an Elamite, said to Ezra: "We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women from the people of the land, yet in spite of this, there is hope for Israel.
“And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said to Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and we have taken strange wives of the people of the land. Yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this…”
“And Shechaniah, the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God and have taken strange wives of the people of the land, yet now there's hope in Israel concerning this…”
“And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have transgressed against our God and have taken strange wives, foreign women of the people of the land. Yet now there is hope in Israel…”
“And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel one of the sons of Elam answered and said unto Ezra we have trespassed against our God and have taken strange wives of the people in the land. Yet now there is hope in Israel concerning”
3So now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all the foreign wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the command of our God. Let it be done according to the Law.
“Now, therefore, let us make a covenant with our God to put away all of the wives and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my Lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God, and let it be done…”
“Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my Lord and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God. And let it be done according…”
“Now, therefore, let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my Lord. And of those that tremble at the commandment of our God, let it be done according…”

“now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives and such as are born of them according to the counsel of my Lord and of those that tremble at the commandments of our God and let it be done according to…”
6Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and walked to the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. And while he stayed there, he ate no food and drank no water, because he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.
“Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and went to the chamber of Jehohanan, the son of Eliashib, where he spent the night neither eating bread nor drinking water. For he was mourning over the faithlessness of the exiles.”
“And they made a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all of the children of the captivity that they should gather themselves together into Jerusalem.”
8Whoever failed to appear within three days would forfeit all his property, according to the counsel of the leaders and elders, and would himself be expelled from the assembly of the exiles.
“that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away.”
9So within the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled in Jerusalem, and on the twentieth day of the ninth month, all the people sat in the square at the house of God, trembling regarding this matter and because of the heavy rain.
“Then all the men of Judah and Jerusalem and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days, yes, they came. It was the ninth month, in the twentieth day of the month, and all the people sat in the street…”
11Now, therefore, make a confession to the LORD, the God of your fathers, and do His will. Separate yourselves from the people of the land and from your foreign wives."
“Now, therefore, make confession unto the Lord God of your fathers and do His pleasure and separate yourselves from the people of the land and from the strange wives.”
“Now therefore make confession unto the Lord God of your fathers, and do his pleasure, and separate yourselves from the people of the land and from the strange wives.”
“Now therefore, make confession unto the Lord, God of your fathers, and do his pleasure, and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the”
“Now therefore make confession unto the Lord God of your fathers, do his pleasure, and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.”
13But there are many people here, and it is the rainy season. We are not able to stay out in the open. Nor is this the work of one or two days, for we have transgressed greatly in this matter.
“But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this the work of one day or two, for we are many that have transgressed this thing.”
14Let our leaders represent the whole assembly. Then let everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at an appointed time, together with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us."
“Let now our rulers and all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of…”
“let now our rulers of all of the congregation stand, and let all of them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at the appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath…”

16So the exiles did as proposed. Ezra the priest selected men who were family heads, each of them identified by name, to represent their families. On the first day of the tenth month they launched the investigation,
“And so the children of the captivity did so, and Ezra the priest with certain chiefs of the fathers after the house of their fathers, and all of them by their names were separated, and they sat down on the first day of the tenth…”
