1This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:
“The word which came, unto Jeremiah, from the Lord, in the days, Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,”
2"Go to the house of the Rechabites, speak to them, and bring them to one of the chambers of the house of the LORD to offer them a drink of wine."
“go to the house of the Rechabites, or the Rechabites, and speak to them and bring them into the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.”
“go to the house of the Rechabites and speak unto them and bring them into the house of the Lord into one of the chambers and set before them wine to drink.”
“go unto the house, of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them, into the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers, wine to drink.”
3So I took Jaazaniah son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers and all his sons—the entire house of the Rechabites—
“So I took Jazaniah the son of Jeremiah the son of Hazbizaniah and his brothers and all of his sons and the whole house of the Rechabites.”
“Then I took Jeazania, the son of Jeremiah, son of Habazinia and his brothers and all his sons and the whole house of Rechabites”
“Then I took, Jazaniah, the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazaniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, in the whole house, of the Rechabites.”
4and I brought them into the house of the LORD, to a chamber occupied by the sons of Hanan son of Igdaliah, a man of God. This room was near the chamber of the officials, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah son of Shallum the doorkeeper.
“And I brought them into the house of the Lord into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the sons of Egdala the man of God which was by the chamber of the princes which was above the chamber of Messiah the son of Shalom the keeper of…”
“and I brought them into the house of the Lord, into the chamber of the sons of Hanun, the son of Igdalia, the man of God, which was near the chamber of the officials, which was above the chamber of Messiah, the son of Shalom, the…”
“And I brought them, into the house of the Lord, into the chambers, of the son of Hanan, the son of Iglodiah, a man of God, which was by the chamber, of the princes, which was above the chamber, of Messiah, the son of Shalom, the…”
5Then I set pitchers full of wine and some cups before the men of the house of the Rechabites, and I said to them, "Drink some wine."
“And I set before the sons of the house of Rechabites these pots full of wine and cups. And I said unto them drink some wine.”
“Then I set before the men of the house of Rechabites pitchers full of wine and cups and I said to them, drink wine,”
“and I said before the sons of the house, of the Rechabites, pots full of wine, and cups. 5. And I said unto them, Drink ye the wine.”
6"We do not drink wine," they replied, "for our forefather Jonadab son of Rechab commanded us, 'Neither you nor your descendants are ever to drink wine.
“but they said we will not drink wine for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us saying you shall not drink wine you or your sons forever”
“But they said, we will drink no wine, for Jonadab, the son of Recab, our father, commanded us saying, you shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons, forever.”
7Nor are you ever to build a house or sow seed or plant a vineyard. Those things are not for you. Instead, you must live in tents all your lives, so that you may live a long time in the land where you wander.'
“you shall not build a house, and you shall not sow seed, and you shall not plant a vineyard or own one. But in tents you shall dwell all your days, that you may live many days in the land where you sojourn.”
“Neither shall ye build houses, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyards, nor have any. But all your days ye shall dwell in tents, that ye may live many days in the land where ye were strangers.”
“Neither shall you build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any. But all your days, you shall dwell in tents, that you may live many days, in the land, where ye be strangers.”
“Neither shall ye build houses, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyards, nor of anything but all your days ye shall dwell in tents, that ye may many days in the land where ye be strangers.”
8And we have obeyed the voice of our forefather Jonadab son of Rechab in all he commanded us. So we have not drunk wine all our lives—neither we nor our wives nor our sons and daughters.
“we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he commanded us not to drink wine all our days we our wives our sons and our daughters”
“Thus have we obeyed, the voice of Jonadab, the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he has charged us, to drink no wine, in all our days, we our wives, our sons, nor our daughters,”
“we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he charged us not to drink wine all of our days. We nor our wives nor our sons nor our daughters”
9Nor have we built houses in which to live, and we have not owned any vineyards or fields or crops.
“nor to build houses, for us to dwell in, neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed,”
“nor to build ourselves houses to dwell in, and we do not have vineyard or field or seed.”
10But we have lived in tents and have obeyed and done exactly as our forefather Jonadab commanded us.
“but we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according, to all that Jonadab, our father, commanded us.”
“we have only dwelt in tents and have obeyed and have done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.”
“But we have dwelt in tents and obeyed and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.”
11So when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched into the land, we said: 'Come, let us go into Jerusalem to escape the armies of the Chaldeans and the Arameans.' So we have remained in Jerusalem."
“Came to pass, when Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came up into the land, that we said come, and let us go to Jerusalem, for fear of the army, of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army, of the Syrians, so we dwelt at Jerusalem.”
“when Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came up against the land that we said, come and let us go to Jerusalem before the army of the Chaldeans and before the army of the Syrians that we have dwelt in Jerusalem.”
12Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
“Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.”
“Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying,”
“Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah”
13"This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Go and tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem: 'Will you not accept discipline and obey My words?' declares the LORD.
“thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will you not receive instruction to hearken to my words saith the Lord.”
“thus says the Lord of hosts the God of Israel go and say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will you not receive instruction by listening to my words declares the Lord”
“thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, go and tell the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, will you not receive instruction, to hearken to my word, saith the Lord?”
14The words of Jonadab son of Rechab have been carried out. He commanded his sons not to drink wine, and they have not drunk it to this very day because they have obeyed the command of their forefather. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you have not obeyed Me!
“the words of Jonadab, the son of Rechab, which he commanded his sons not to drink wine or observed? So they do not drink wine to this day, for they have obeyed their father's command. But I have spoken to you again and again, and…”
“the words of Jonadab, the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, or perform. For unto this day, they drink none, but obeyed their father's commandment. Notwithstanding, I have spoken to you, rising early…”
15Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets, proclaiming: 'Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.' But you have not inclined your ear or listened to Me.
“Also I have sent you all my servants, the prophets, sending them again and again, saying, Turn out every man from his evil way and amend your deeds. Do not go after other gods to worship them. Then you shall dwell in the land…”
16Yes, the sons of Jonadab son of Rechab carried out the command their forefather gave them, but these people have not listened to Me.
“because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them but this people is not hearkened unto me.”
“Indeed the sons of Jonadab the sons of Rechab have observed the command of their father which he commanded them but this people have not listened to me.”
“because the sons of Jonadab, the son of Rechab, had performed the commandments of their father, which he commanded them, but this people, have not hearkened unto me.”
17Therefore this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Behold, I will bring to Judah and to all the residents of Jerusalem all the disaster I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them but they have not obeyed, and I have called to them but they have not answered.'"
“Therefore thus saith the Lord the God of hosts the God of Israel behold I will bring upon Judah and upon all of the inhabitants of Jerusalem all of the evil that I have pronounced against them because I have spoken unto them but…”
“Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the disaster that I have pronounced against them, because I spoke to them, but they did…”
“Therefore, thus saith the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, behold, I will bring upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken unto them, but…”
18Then Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites: "This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Because you have obeyed the command of your forefather Jonadab and have kept all his commandments and have done all that he charged you to do,
“Then Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites. Thus says the Lord of hosts the God of Israel because you have obeyed the command of Jonadab your father kept all his commands and done according to all that he commanded you.”
“and Jeremiah said, into the house of the Rechabites, thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, because you have obeyed, the commandments of Jonadab, your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all, that…”
19this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Jonadab son of Rechab will never fail to have a man to stand before Me.'"
“Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts the God of Israel Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not lack a man to stand before me. Always”
“Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me”
“therefore, thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Jonadab, the son of Rechab, shall not want, or lack, a man to stand before me, forever.”
