“And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers and stood and confessed their sins and iniquities and the iniquities of their fathers.”
3While they stood in their places, they read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God for a quarter of the day, and they spent another quarter of the day in confession and worship of the LORD their God.
“and they stood up in their place and read in the book of the law of the Lord their God one fourth part of the day and another fourth part they confessed and worshipped the Lord their God,”
“And they stood up in their place and read in the book of the law of the Lord, their God, one fourth part of the day and another fourth part, they confessed and worship the Lord, their God.”
“And they stood up in their place and read in the book of the law of the Lord their God one fourth part of the day and another fourth part they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God.”
“While they stood in their place they read from the book of the law of the Lord their God for a fourth of the day and another fourth they confessed and Worshiped the Lord their God.”
“And they stood up in their faith and read in the book of the law of the Lord their God one fourth part of the day, and another fourth part they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God.”
“While they stood in their place They read from the book of the law of the Lord their God for the fourth of the day and then for another fourth They confessed and they worshipped the Lord their God.”
4And the Levites—Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani—stood on the raised platform and cried out in a loud voice to the LORD their God.no reading yet
5Then the Levites—Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah—said, "Stand up and bless the LORD your God from everlasting to everlasting: Blessed be Your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise.no reading yet
6You alone are the LORD. You created the heavens, the highest heavens with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to all things, and the host of heaven worships You.
“you are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens with all their hosts, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them, and you preserve all of them. And the host of heaven worships you.”
8You found his heart faithful before You, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites and Hittites, of the Amorites and Perizzites, of the Jebusites and Girgashites— to give it to his descendants. You have kept Your promise, because You are righteous.
“you found his heart faithful before you, and you made your covenant with him to give him the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, and the Gergashites. To give it, I say, to his seed,…”
“you found his heart faithful before you and made with him the covenant to give his offspring the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, and the Gergeshite. That is the promised land. And you…”
10You performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, all his officials, and all the people of his land, for You knew they had acted with arrogance against our fathers. You made a name for Yourself that endures to this day.
“performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants and all the people of his land, for you knew that they acted arrogantly against our fathers, and you made a name for yourself as it is to this day.”
“and performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants and all the people of his land for you knew that they acted arrogantly against our fathers and you made a name for yourself as it is to this day.”
11You divided the sea before them, and they crossed through it on dry ground. You hurled their pursuers into the depths like a stone into raging waters.
“And you divided the sea before them so that they went through the midst of the sea on dry land and you cast their pursuers into the depths as a stone into mighty waters.”
“You did divide the sea before them so that they went through the midst of the sea on dry land and their persecutors you threw into the deeps as a stone into the mighty waters.”
15In their hunger You gave them bread from heaven; in their thirst You brought them water from the rock. You told them to go in and possess the land which You had sworn to give them.
“You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger and brought water for them out of the rock for their thirst and you told them to go in to possess the land that you had sworn to give them.”
“gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promised them that they should go in to possess the land which thou had sworn to give them.”
17They refused to listen and failed to remember the wonders You performed among them. They stiffened their necks and appointed a leader to return them to their bondage in Egypt. But You are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in loving devotion, and You did not forsake them.
“refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them, hardened their necks, in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But thou art a God ready to pardon gracious and merciful…”
“refused to obey our fathers, neither were mindful of thy wonders, they're talking to God, that thou didst among them but stiff -harden their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But, but,…”
18Even when they cast for themselves an image of a calf and said, 'This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,' and when they committed terrible blasphemies,
19You in Your great compassion did not forsake them in the wilderness. By day the pillar of cloud never turned away from guiding them on their path; and by the night the pillar of fire illuminated the way they should go.
“yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness. The pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day to lead them in the way, neither the pillar of fire by night to show them light, and the way wherein…”
“in thy great compassion didst not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud did not leave them by day to guide them on their way nor the pillar of fire by night to light for Them the way in which they were to go”
“You in your great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. Oh, what a God we serve. The pillar of cloud to lead them in the way did not depart from them by day nor the pillar of fire by night to light for them the way by…”
22You gave them kingdoms and peoples and allotted to them every corner of the land. So they took the land of Sihon king of Heshbon and of Og king of Bashan.no reading yet
23You multiplied their descendants like the stars of heaven and brought them to the land You had told their fathers to enter and possess.
“Their children also multiplied thou as the stars of heaven and broughtest them into the land concerning which thou hast promised to their fathers that they should go in and to possess it.”
24So their descendants went in and possessed the land; You subdued before them the Canaanites dwelling in the land. You delivered into their hands the kings and peoples of the land, to do with them as they wished.
“So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduest before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them unto their hands with their kings and the people of the land, that they might do with them…”
“So the descendants went in and possessed the land and you subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and you gave them into their hand with their kings and the peoples of the land that they might do with…”
25They captured fortified cities and fertile land and took houses full of all goods, wells already dug, vineyards, olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate and were filled; they grew fat and delighted in Your great goodness.
“and they took strong cities and a fat land, and possessed houses full of goods, wells, digs, vineyards and olive yards, and fruit trees in abundance. So they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in…”
26But they were disobedient and rebelled against You; they flung Your law behind their backs. They killed Your prophets, who had admonished them to return to You. They committed terrible blasphemies.
“They were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies.”
“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.”
“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets who had warned them in order to turn them back to you and they committed great blasphemies.”
“Nevertheless, they were disobedient verse 26 and rebelled against thee and cast our law behind their backs and they slew thy prophets. Which testified against them to turn them to thee and they wrought great provocations.”
27So You delivered them into the hands of enemies who oppressed them, and in their time of distress they cried out to You. From heaven You heard them, and in Your great compassion You gave them deliverers who saved them from the hands of their enemies.
“Therefore, you gave them into the hand of their enemies who made them suffer. And in the time of their suffering, they cried out to you, and you heard them from heaven. And according to your great mercies, you gave them saviors…”
“Therefore, you gave them into the hand of their enemies who made them suffer. And in the time of their suffering, they cried out to you and you heard them from heaven and according to your great mercies, you gave them saviors who…”
“Therefore thou delivers them into the hand of the enemies who vexed them and in the time of their trouble when they cried unto thee Thou heardest them from heaven and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviors who…”
28But as soon as they had rest, they again did evil in Your sight. So You abandoned them to the hands of their enemies, who had dominion over them. When they cried out to You again, You heard from heaven, and You delivered them many times in Your compassion.
“but after they had rest, they did evil again before you and you abandoned them to the hand of their enemies so that they had dominion over them. Yet, when they turned and cried to you, you heard from heaven and many times you…”
“But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee. Therefore thou leftest them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had dominion over them. Yet when they returned and cried unto thee, thou hurtest them from heaven,…”
“But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee. Therefore left thou them in the land of their enemies, so that they had dominion over them. Yet when they returned and cried unto thee, thou hurtest them from heaven, and…”
29You admonished them to turn back to Your law, but they were arrogant and disobeyed Your commandments. They sinned against Your ordinances, by which a man will live if he practices them. They stubbornly shrugged their shoulders; they stiffened their necks and would not obey.
“and you warned them in order to turn them back to your law, yet they acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments but sinned against your rules which if a person does them, he shall live by them and turn a stubborn…”
30You were patient with them for many years, and Your Spirit admonished them through Your prophets. Yet they would not listen, so You gave them into the hands of the neighboring peoples.
“Many years you bore with them and warned them by your spirit through your prophets, yet they would not give ear. Therefore, you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.”
“many years, they say, you, God, bore with them and warned them by your spirit through your prophets, yet they would not give ear. Therefore, you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the land.”
32So now, our God, the great and mighty and awesome God who keeps His gracious covenant, do not view lightly all the hardship that has come upon us, and upon our kings and leaders, our priests and prophets, our ancestors and all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until today.
“Now therefore our God, the great, the mighty, the terrible God, who keepeth covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our…”
“Our kings, our princes, our priests and our fathers have not kept your law or paid attention to your commandments and your warnings that you gave them”
35For even while they were in their kingdom, with the abundant goodness that You had given them, and in the spacious and fertile land that You had set before them, they would not serve You or turn from their wicked ways.
“even in their own kingdom, enjoying your great goodness that you gave them. And in the large and rich land that you set before them, they did not serve you or turn from their wicked works.”
“behold we are servants this day for the land that you gave unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof behold we are servants in it”
“Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land which thou gavest our fathers, to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof. Behold, we are servants in it.”
37Its abundant harvest goes to the kings You have set over us because of our sins. And they rule over our bodies and our livestock as they please. We are in great distress.
“and its rich yield goes to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and over our livestock as they please, and we are in great distress.”
“and it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou has set over us because of our sin also they have dominion over our bodies and over our cattle and over our and at their pleasure and we are in great distress.”
“and its rich yield goes to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and over our livestock as they please and we are in great distress.”
“its abundant produce. Our produce is for the king whom thou has set over us because of our sin. They also rule over our bodies and over our cattle as they please. So we are in great distress.”
“And its rich yield goes to the kings whom you've set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and even over our livestock as they please, and we are in great distress”
