The Holy Spirit is a divine teacher who guides us into all truth and gives us the actual possession and enjoyment of what God's words contain.
Andrew Murray emphasizes the role of the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Truth, highlighting how the disciples struggled to grasp Jesus' teachings during His earthly ministry. He points out that despite hearing Jesus' words about His death, resurrection, humility, and love, the disciples could not fully understand or internalize them. The promise of the Holy Spirit was given to provide them with a divine teacher who would dwell within them, enabling them to truly possess and enjoy the truths of Jesus' teachings. This indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit is essential for believers to comprehend and live out the truths of the Gospel.
Text
We all know how little, while the Lord Jesus was on earth with his disciples, his instructions really profited them. What he taught about his death and resurrection, about humility and love, they could not understand. They knew what he said, but it did not enter their hearts; they could not really apprehend it. When he promised the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of truth, to guide into all truth, it was that they might have a divine teacher who would, dwelling within them as their life, give them the actual possession and enjoyment of what the words contained.
