God lives and works today. We all know the longing in our hearts to have a home. Often we don't realize it is there until we have to leave home, or until it is jeopardized by natural catastrophe or family problems.

Today's meditation by Basilia Schlenk talks about a greater need to have a home, the need that our souls have for all eternity. Are you homeless? Before my eyes I can still see very clearly the streams of refugees who passed through Europe at the end of the Second World War. What unhappy faces they had.

They seemed to say, if I could only return back to my home country. To have a home means everything. It's terrible to be homeless.

However, the question of whether or not I have an earthly home, even though a home is a very precious gift, is not so important when I compare it to my future destiny. Will I have a home in heaven? This question is very important, for the answer determines where I will be forever, from eternity to eternity. In church history we sometimes read about men of God such as Sadhu Sundar Singh.

He and many other witnesses from various countries testify that the spirits of the dead often find no place to rest. Here on earth these people had not found peace in Jesus. He had not become a haven of rest for them because they had not brought their sins to Him, had not repented.

Eternity is a serious matter. Jesus says there is a kingdom full of torment, a kingdom of darkness where men weep and gnash their teeth. There the conscience doesn't die, and men wander about tormented and homeless in dreadful darkness.

Homeland, your light shines upon me is the beginning of a song written by a brother in Christ whom I knew very well. This brother in Christ lived his life with only one goal in mind, to go home to heavenly glory. He battled against every sin and didn't let a single day pass by without asking his neighbor for forgiveness when he had spoken an unkind word.

Now he's entered his heavenly home. Jesus is calling to you today. Make haste.

Soon the hour will come when you will be called to eternity too. It's time to prepare for this hour. Pray and beseech God that He will transform you into His image so that one day you may go to heaven.

Take care that you're not falsely attached to anything so that you may find a home above. Yes, every hour is important. Therefore take advantage of each hour.

Jesus is calling to you. Prepare yourself so that you can enter heaven. O my soul, put off your shackles.

Break each tie that binds us. All that's earthly fails and dies. Every hour indeed is precious.

Use time well. God's Word still warns you that you may prepare your way for your heavenly wedding day. You have been listening to a program written by Basile Schlinck of the Little Land of Canaan.
