God lives and works today. Perhaps we have experienced His reality at some time in our lives, but then innumerable other experiences followed, so that we simply forgot about what God had done. Today's meditation by Basilea Schlink can help God's reality to become once again an event of today.
God called to His people Israel time and again to remember. For example, in Deuteronomy 8, verse 2, He says, Remember all the ways which the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness. Why does God call His people to remember? Why does He actually command them to write down His mighty deeds and set up memorials as a testimony to His love? God knows that through remembering, our hearts are inflamed to give Him praise, and our trust in His might and love are strengthened.
Time and time again in our sisterhood, we've experienced the great value of remembering God's goodness. Because we have no steady income, we must live in a constant insecurity, totally dependent upon God to supply the necessary money for all the bills at the end of the month. He alone must supply the help, so that all of the commissions He has given us for His kingdom can be carried out.
Every time we get near the end of the month, and the burden of thousands of dollars weighs heavily on our hearts, it has really helped to remember. Then we think back over the past years, and all the times we stood empty-handed at the end of our possibilities. Then, even if it were in the very last minute, God always stepped in and gave us everything we needed.
Who can plan? Who has sense? All the Father wants to bless. He loves giving, helping, aiding, all His children gently leading, that they all may find true joy. To You thanks now we raise, Father, hearken to our praise.
Like a river streams Your goodness, overwhelming us with kindness. We taste paradise on earth. We should often set aside certain times to remember and thank the Lord for what He has done for us.
If we take time to remember at every birthday, or at the end of the year, or at the end of a certain chapter of our lives, we would become strong in faith and experience even more of God's help and miracles. To You thanks now we raise, Father, hearken to our praise. Like a river streams Your goodness, overwhelming us with kindness.
We taste paradise on earth. You are kind, always kind, only love to us we find. Joyfully we praise Your mercy.
