Victory in Battle

God lives and works today. He has won the victory over all the powers of sin and death in our lives as well. Yes, Jesus is victor, but perhaps you don't feel as though any victory has been won over the sin in your life.

You're still plagued by the same thoughts of bitterness, the same unlovingness. You pray to be set free, but you just don't see any results. If you really want the victory of Christ to be visible in your life, today's meditation by Basilea Schlink called Victory in Battle can help you.

We've all experienced how we've been able to put up with difficult people at work for weeks or even months on end, and then quite suddenly comes what the Bible calls the evil day, when all our irritation, anger, and bitterness explode. We come to the conclusion then, it simply can't go on like this. I just can't bear that person anymore.

Thoughts of bitterness take possession of us. How can we explain this? In Ephesians 6, the Apostle Paul writes to the church there, For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the high places. And on specific days, these evil spirits stage a major attack on our souls.

Then, that is the evil day, when it is vital to resist the devil and gain victory. But now the decisive question, how do I get the victory? In this case, the victory over my bitterness and lovelessness to others. Whoever wants to be victorious must ask himself first, do I really want to be free from my wrong attitude towards others? Then there are three battle rules to follow.

First, I must be prepared, as it says in Romans 8, verse 13, and Galatians 5, verse 24, to take measures against myself. In practice, this means making a radical break with all bitter thoughts towards the other person. Or perhaps if I was avoiding him before, then no longer trying to stay out of his way.

And second, I must endure in the battle of faith, keeping my gaze set on Jesus day by day. In other words, take a certain time every day to sing and praise the blood of Jesus over my bitterness and lack of love. And third, I must accept God's chastisements.

For through them, my natural self, with its feelings of bitterness and lovelessness, will die. Yes, we can be sure if we want to become free from our bitterness and unloving ways, and follow these three steps. Then one day, this evil spirit of bitterness and unlovingness will disappear.

Yes, the devil must see that his attacks cannot make us fall. Rather, they drive us to Jesus, so that one day, as overcomers, we shall be able to behold our Lord Jesus at the throne of glory. I am redeemed, for me those wounds have fled.

I am redeemed, made new by blood He shed. He set me free to pardon as He pardoned me. His sacrifice alone won victory.
