A missionary related the following story. He said, you can stand on a cliff in Mexico and gaze down at a certain village of Mexican workers. These people work down in the riverbed in their corn patch.

And there they grow their corn. And when the corn is ready to harvest, they shuck it. And after it dries out, they'll take it and grind it into cornmeal and make tortillas.

And then they'll take these tortillas down to the open market. And there sell the tortillas for a few pesos. And put them away for a special day.

Then they'll come back out to their house and there they will live off of lizards. They'll go out among the rocks and catch these huge long lizards. And they'll eat those lizards and save that money for a special day.

A special day when they will start a pilgrimage to a wooden statue of Jesus up in the mountains. The terrain to that statue is so bad that most of the people will have to crawl on their hands and knees a couple of miles. And by the time they get to that statue, they are bleeding all over.

Standing beside the statue is a priest. And that priest is saying, Now you love God, give to Him because you show your love to God by giving. And those people will reach into their little bags and purses and pull those pesos out.

Stained in their own blood and drop that money in a slit in the top of the head of Jesus. Then the priest prays and when he is finished, the priest will yell, You have not given enough. Look, Jesus is sad.

He is crying. And all the time there will be another priest hidden in that hollow statue. With a little hand pump he will pump water to where it comes out of human made tear ducts.

And that statue is crying. And there those people will give all they have. Crawl down that mountain and go back to eating lizards.

Growing their corn to make more tortillas. To get more pesos to go and give to a dead God that cannot move or hear. Now we may pity those poor deceived people.

But I believe many church members today are doing like those Mexican workers. And have carved out for themselves a wooden Jesus they can serve. But it's not the God of the Bible.

Church folk today have taken out their pocket knives. And have whittled themselves a little God who they can serve. And who won't get in the way of their daily living.

They worship a God of their own imagination. That is not the living God of the Bible. Many today have carved out for themselves a love God.

Who won't punish sin. But their God would never send anybody to hell. Yet alone them.

But in Matthew's gospel in chapter 10 and verse 28. Jesus declared. And fear not them which kill the body.

But are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him. Which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Listen friends. You better kill your little God. Before the God of the Bible kills you.

You spend your life in the worship of an idol. Of your own imagination. You'll sure go to hell clutching that wretched thing.

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Will not tolerate you serving any other God but Him. The God of the Bible.

Is a God who will and must punish sin. You better kill your little God. Before God kills you.

A sudden death is all around us today. An unforeseen accident or illness. Can suddenly plunge us into eternity.

If we have devoted our life to a God of our own making. We will surely die in our sins. Clutching that little idol.

And we will spend eternity in hell. Full of regret and remorse. For not worshiping the God of the Bible.

The Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said. Fear Him.

Which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. You better kill your little God friend. And throw your shotgun of rebellion down.

At the feet of a sovereign. You must repent of your sins. And surrender all you have.

And all you are. To the Lord Jesus Christ. He will not be a savior.

Unless He is Lord. The Lordship of Jesus Christ. Is a forgotten doctrine today.

Instead we tell folks they can be saved. And go to heaven. And still sin all they want to.

That holiness is not needed for today's Christian. That we can be saved. And still sit on the throne of our lives.

And rule there. But if you are going to be saved friend. You must be aware.

That salvation is in Christ. And when you get saved. Self must be dethroned.

And another must sit and rule over your heart. The Lord Jesus Christ. When you are genuinely converted.

You have a new disposition for holiness. And a new master. Your body is not your own.

Your time is not your own. Your money is not your own. Christ must be a complete master.

2 Corinthians 5.15 declares. And that He died for all. That they which live.

Should not henceforth. Live unto themselves. But unto Him.

Which died for them. And rose again. Don't be deceived like those.

Mexican workers. Who serve the false God. And miss the true God.

The Lord Jesus Christ. Come to Christ friend. Salvation is Christ.

Jesus declared. I am the bread of life. He that cometh to me.

Shall never hunger. And he that believeth on me. Shall never thirst.

Christ is the bread of life. He invites poor sinners. To come to Him.

And believe on Him. The duty required is to come. And He has a pure gospel promise.

To all who come. And Him that cometh to me. I will in no wise.

Cast out. But let us pray.
