Peace Offering

Leviticus chapter 3 and it has to do with the peace offering. Mention made already of the offerings. Leviticus really it's the it's the children of God, it's Israel and they're they're going into worship and the sacrifices and as mentioned you have the five primary offerings in the opening chapters of Leviticus.

Might just remind our hearts that the first three are what is known as sweet savory offerings. The burnt offering in chapter 1 is the Lord Jesus Christ and his sacrifice wholly for God and in chapter 2 you have the meal offering the meal the meat the meal offering and the fine flour and the oil and the incense. Again the the value of the life of our Lord Jesus Christ as a sweet savor offering to God.

And you come now to the peace offering and what I want to share with you especially about the peace offering is how that it was shared together. The Lord it was for the Lord God especially and it was for the offer as well. He got his portion as well as the the priests and the family of Aaron.

We want to look at that just briefly now. Leviticus chapter 3 and we'll read verses 1 to 5. And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd whether it be male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the Lord and he shall lay his hand upon the head of the offering and kill it at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and Aaron's sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about and he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace offering an offering made by fire unto the Lord the fat that covereth the inwards and all the fat that is upon the inwards and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them which is by the flanks and the call above the liver with the kidneys it shall he take away and Aaron's shall burn it on the altar upon the burnt sacrifice which is upon the wood that is on the fire it is an offering made by fire of a sweet savor on to the Lord. The peace offering was an offering to make peace.

It is also a fellowship offering and we're going to see how that the offer fed in fellowship with the Lord and with the family of priests and it's wonderful how the peace offering comes in of a five again it's central and in my thinking and understanding it kind of ties a lot of the offerings together it's tied together in the peace offering. Now if you were to read down the verses you would see how the peace offering could be from the herd of which we have read or in verse number seven it could be of the flock or verse number 12 goat and so there are various grades of the peace offering and when I think of that I think of our appreciation of the Lord Jesus Christ and how that we might value him and how that our appreciation of him our apprehension of him would grow and as we would mature and as young believers would would get a grasp of the of the scriptures and the things of the Lord Jesus Christ and we would it would enhance enhance our our thinking and our appreciation of the Lord Jesus Christ that's what I see in these various grades but stepping over that and looking at the verses that we have read just a few pointers in verse number one this offering was to be without blemish now we want to think in particular of our Lord Jesus Christ and beloved he was a sinless holy one he knew no sin he did no sin in him was no sin and over in Hebrews chapter 7 verse 26 he's described as holy harmless undefiled and separate from sinners and so this offering again it was to be without blemish reminding us of the perfections of our Lord Jesus Christ of a sinlessness and of his holiness and then in verse 1 in verse number 2 here they were to lay their hand upon the head of it and and to me they were to identify with this offering and so we have been brought into communion and fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ through his sacrifice and through our acceptance of what he has done for us we have been redeemed and mention is made here in verse number 2 as well of the blood and how it was taken and sprinkled and you know as well as I do that there's a theme all through scripture of the blood the value of the blood the preciousness of the blood and without shedding of blood you know there's no atonement and the Lord Jesus Christ at the cross his life was given his precious blood is shed and we are redeemed as Peter would tell us not with corruptible things not with silver and gold but with the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot but what I want to point out especially is how that this offering was shared in and in the section that we have read from verse 3 to verse 5 you can see how that it was the food for the Lord and there was what we might just step back from the fat and the inwards but that was the value that was the preciousness to the Lord of this offering the fat in verse number 3 verse number 4 which I take to be the excellence of the offering and the inwards it was to be the Lord God's portion it was all for him you know I think again well go back to Exodus chapter 12 where you have the the lamb and and and the roast lamb its head with its legs with the pertinence or the inwards and how that it was all consumed and it was all value and of value and and preciousness to the Lord God and so that's what we have in this sacrifice it was first number five it was like a pleasing aroma think again of our Lord Jesus Christ Ephesians chapter 4 an offering and a sacrifice excuse me Ephesians 5 is verse number 2 an offering and the sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor that was the offering up of our Lord Jesus Christ in life this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased and especially in his obedience and willingness to go to the cross and there become the sacrifice for us and for our sins and again a sacrifice that brought pleasure to the heart of God God is satisfied with the work of the Lord Jesus Christ Isaiah chapter 53 again just all speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ verse number 11 he shall see of the travel of his soul and shall be satisfied Oh beloved there is absolutely no no hope for us no salvation for us if first of all the offering of up of our Lord Jesus Christ hadn't satisfied again that word that has been used already at our conference propitiation God is satisfied with the work of our Lord Jesus Christ first and foremost okay let's turn over the page to chapter number 7 chapter number 7 and chapter 7 I'm going to lift out a few things about the peace offering in verse number 11 it's the law of the sacrifice of peace offering I would like just you to carefully see how this offering was first and foremost food for the Lord secondly it was to be the enjoyment of the offerer let's read a single verse number 15 Leviticus 7 verse 15 and the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings for Thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that is offered he shall not leave any of it until the morning the flesh or the meat was to be fed upon it was to be the portion of the offer you know I think of our portion what we have in Christ that I can feed upon him I already mentioned in Exodus chapter 12 the roast lamb and the children of Israel as they were going up redeemed by blood and then up through the Red Sea by power but you know they were to partake of the roast lamb and feed upon it God's provision for his people whether it be Egypt whether it be the wilderness journey the manna Exodus chapter 17 the manna from heaven small how's it described small round white and sweet to taste think of our Lord Jesus Christ the one who humbled himself small round that his eternal being no beginning no end again the spotless purity and beloved isn't he sweet to feed upon taste of him to partake of him so whether it be the roast lamb in Egypt the men in the wilderness or coming into the land the manna cease the old corn of the land that was their enjoyment then feeding and and we as believe we have been fed right during the conference and they're coming together we have enjoyed things concerning our Lord Jesus Christ as he has been uplifted to our spiritual view and eyesight feeding upon him I think of what John would write and saying John 1 I'm thinking a moment 1st John 1st John chapter 1 verse 1 that which was from the beginning which we have heard which we have seen with our eyes and looked upon and our hands have handled of the word of life hasn't beloved hasn't that been the case during this during our coming together we've enjoyed Christ and he has been uplifted and he is most precious to our soul so the value then of the peace offering the enjoyment of the heart of the Lord God he had his portion and what we might step back from the inwards and so on and the fat but we have our portion and the Lord Jesus Christ as well finally in chapter 7 here again I'm looking here down at verse a single verse first 34 7 and 34 for the wave breast and the heave shoulder have I taken of the children of Israel from off the sacrifice of the peace offerings and have given them on to Aaron the priest and on to his sons by a statue forever from among the children of Israel here's now something that especially for the priest and the family of the priest Aaron and his family it was the breast and the shoulder you know the breast I think of the affections of Christ and how that we have been drawn from what's out there and we've been drawn to himself and we can abide in him and there's no there's no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus and that's where the believer that's your standing in Christ and we can enjoy pleasurable things to be found in our Lord Jesus Christ and and we can know the strength his shoulder you know the priest and the family of priests again is something brothers and sisters it would it would unite the believers on the Lord Jesus Christ we would stand we would come together as one we're going to give it we will give expression to that in the supper of which we will take up shortly that that that as believers in a body of Christ we have been linked in and associated together and we have we have a common bond in Christ and common interest in him and so all that I can see the priest of course you realize that in the old it was a particular family and so on a priest you know what you have in the new we are priests I that that is rather some people some dear souls I'm working with you bring them the gospel and and and they're saved and then for them to grasp this I remember a reading I was having with a large group of them and and they they looked upon me as they as a priest well I was gonna shake that off as quick as I can and I said let's turn and read those verses in first Peter chapter 2 I said what is this speaking of you know here you have this holy priests holy priests verse 5 offer up spiritual sacrifices you have you have a royal priesthood and for them to realize that they are priests no one person and so that's the New Testament and beloved now as a family as a family of believers and priests holy royal priest holy going in royal going out to serve LA you bring them together and that's our standing that's our portion and that's our blessings that we have in Christ Oh beloved it is that it is a peace offering I wonder have I really defined the peace offering you know there's certain when I think of the peace offering there's certain images come to my mind two months ago we should stood at the shore of the ocean and saw those waves and saw a way out there a ship on the sea and we were just all we could see at shore is those mighty waves of the sea but I thought of a calm peace and the ship as it as it was out in the water there or the piece of I I think of a baby taken up in in in its mother's arms how peaceful no no trouble no thought of anything no consciousness of anything that child in the arms its mother and there might be a storm out there there might be what was seen the seen the picture of an eagle and there it is soaring above the storm way up the crevice of a crevice of a rock peace you know the idea of peace it's just a good and a happy relationship that we have with the Lord and with one another all that I can see in the peace offering first John again first John chapter 1 the thought of fellowship is really a fellowship offering what is it verse number three John would write and say our fellowship fellowship he says with us and with the father and with the son isn't that beloved isn't that precious the fellowship that we can have yeah you tell me you're a believer you tell me you're enjoying sweet fellowship with the Lord what about fellowship one with another isn't that just as important and you can't you can't really be in the enjoyment with one without the other much despite what people might say you you know and so as we come together and as we remember our Lord Jesus Christ it's sweet fellowship it's the peace that we have I must conclude that's a whole subject the peace you know I mentioned it yesterday and I enjoyed this peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ Romans 5 and 1 peace with God what about the peace of God that that Paul would speak about Philippians chapter 4 verse number 7 the peace of God which passes surpasses that what mr. Newberry said surpasses all understanding might might guard garrison your hearts and minds through our Lord Jesus Christ Oh beloved there's peace I was enjoying the thought of peace in in Isaiah I just you'll have to search it out it's over 40 mentions of peace the peace that we have in the book of Isaiah somebody remind us already of Isaiah 9 verse 6 the prince of peace his name Emmanuel a wonderful counselor the mighty God the everlasting father the prince of peace perfect peace that's what we have in Isaiah chapter 26 or mr. Newberry says peace peace oh that that is all around us the peace that we can enjoy and again again it's because of our Lord Jesus Christ and I can see it in the peace offering how sweet today that the Lord God can receive his portion and we can enjoy the portion of Christ as well may it be so first names
