A New Anointing

Amen. I want to bring you again to part two in this new series just as we enter the new year and just welcome your visiting with us. May the Lord bless you, encourage you, speak to you here today in our gathering.

Please do, if you missed last week, please go back and listen to part one of this series. We also start a new series on Wednesday night. We're going to deal with fellowship on every sphere of life, with God, the father, with God, the son, with God, the Holy ghost, with one another in marriage, every aspect.

We're going to look at this thing called fellowship from a biblical perspective. But here on these Sundays, I just started a brief series called a new chapter last week. Part one was a new chapter here this morning.

I want to preach part two of this, a new anointing reading from Sam 92 in your Bibles. You know, thank God for the grace and the mercy of God. As we enter a new year, we're not left to our own thoughts, our own wrestling to try and find the way of God and the will of God.

You have a book, you have the written scriptures inspired by the Holy ghost, a clear message. You can tell right from wrong deception from air, the way of God from the way of man. You, you have a remarkable book and you know what your soul depends on walking in the light of it.

It's not just another book. It's not an aid to your walk. This is the word of God, the inspired work of the Holy spirit.

Never seek for the Holy spirit to speak to you. If you neglect the Bible, that that's mere sham to be saying, Lord, speak to me and to neglect his word. All it is is a prayer.

God isn't going to answer. He'll be saying, go to my word within the word of God. I will start speaking to you.

Be assured. But here in this part two, we looked last week at Psalm 18 and David, sadly because of being snowed in, I had to preach from my desk. It's much better to preach here.

I want to promise you, but you know what I'm so conscious that from Psalm 18, the Lord started a new chapter in David's heart by bringing them into a large place of deliverance from the hand of the enemy. Since we consume minimize the word of God, so water it down that it has no power anymore. I believe in evangelical churches.

We've lost the message of the new birth. It is a supernatural radical experience of the Holy spirit, separate the man onto Jesus Christ. We make it a sinner's prayer.

We make it a mere intellectual belief, but no longer an experience of God. But I want to tell you, I believe in the experiences of the book of God. What he says is real, never water down.

And I want to tell you what we dealt with last week. There is a deliverance from every enemy saints of God. The devil will fight you on this.

There is a victory over sin. There is a deliverance from the onslaught of hell. It is very real, but here this morning, I want to read from Sam 92 and this part two says in Sam 92 first one as Sam, our song for the Sabbath day.

This was a song written for the day when God's people gathered together. Not when you're alone. This is a song inspired the Holy spirit that when we gather together in the Lord's day, they gather together on the seventh day, the Sabbath, we gather together on the first day of the week, the Lord's day, the day of resurrection, the day of the coming of the Holy spirit, the day when the early church gathered together, we don't gather on the Sabbath.

The Sabbath is the seventh day. It was the mark of the old covenant, but we as a new covenant people gather on the Lord's day to remember his shed blood. This was a Sam given.

Sorry, I'm starting to preach before I read my texts, but I can't help it. The Sam, this Sam was given that we're going to deal with here for the Sabbath day. When you gather together, it is filled with truth for the saints of God.

As we gather together, it's an exhortation for the gathered people of God. When we're in one place at the same time doing the same things, that's church. That's the definition of church.

Not two or three meeting together in some coffee shop. Well, we're the church that's rubbish. The real church gathers in the same place at the same time to do the same things in a regular habitual way.

That is the church of Jesus Christ. Here's a Sam, a message from God, an exhortation when we gather together on the Lord's day to worship him. Listen to what it says here, inspired by the Holy Spirit.

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, isn't it? To sing praises unto thy name, O most high. To show forth thy loving kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery, upon the harp, with a solemn sound.

For thy Lord has made me glad through thy work. Aren't you glad for the work of God this morning? That he makes you glad through his work, not your work. I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

O Lord, how great are thy works, and thy thoughts are very deep. A brutish man knoweth not, neither does a fool understand this. Notice this next verse.

When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish, or spread themselves about abundantly, it is that they shall be destroyed forever. But thou, Lord, are most high forevermore. For lo, thine enemies, O Lord, for lo, thine enemies shall perish.

All the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. But, and I love the buts of Scripture, but my horn, and this verse is my text this morning, but my horn shall now exult like the horn of a unicorn. I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

Mine eye also shall see the desire of my enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that shall rise up against me. The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree. He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age. Aren't you glad, Brother Jair? They shall be fat and flourishing to show that the Lord is upright.

He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. Let's pray together for God's blessing. Pray for yourself.

Pray for those around you, your brothers. Pray for those online, those that will listen afterwards. Father, we bow the knee.

We humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God this morning as we approach your word. This preacher needs you. He actually is attentive to hear what you will say even this morning.

Lord God, we are longing for you. We desire you do not shut us up to the hands of our enemies, but deliver us and bring us forth. Father, thank you that in our life, in our Christian walk, there are new chapters that you write.

Lord God, you deliver us and bring us into a large area delivered out of the hands of our enemies. My God, but you also bring a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit of God. Lord God, even this morning like David of old, we pray for that new anointing, that fresh anointing that you would anoint our shield for the battle.

Lord God, we are in a raging warfare. We have enemies on the left and the right, and our enemies are set against our love for you, our faith in you, our hope in you, our desires for you. Lord God, we are pursuing after spiritual things.

We are in a spiritual warfare in this church, and my God, we do stand in the armor of God. Lord God, we take to ourselves, Lord God, the armor of God, especially the shield of faith this morning, realizing, oh God, that we have an adversary, that there are powers of darkness set against the church of God. And Father, we pray, oh God, for a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit of God.

Anoint us afresh, freshen us in our walk where people are tired and weary, oh God, where they become stale in their walk with you. Father, I pray again for that new anointing, that fresh anointing. Lord God, that filling of the Holy Spirit of God, in Jesus' mighty name, amen, amen.

My message part two, a new anointing. It says here in Psalm 92 and 10, David speaking, but my horn, do you know when you say but in the things of God, when things are going another way, when you're surrounded by enemies today, you go but. That isn't the full story.

There are many in God's house, they haven't learned the buts. All they see is what is. This is their reality, a raging enemy, temptation, sin, trials, troubles, heartaches.

They've never learned the buts. But it says here, David speaking, but my horn shall thou exalt like the horn of a unicorn. I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

That is my text this morning. David says, I shall. Notice twice in this verse, he says, thou shalt exalt me.

I shall be anointed. Both of it is future. It's not that he's saying, I have been.

He's saying, I will be. Do you hear the tense here? He's not just saying, I've got it all. I've had it all.

I've experienced it all. He said, I will be anointed with fresh oil. God is going to exalt my horn above my enemies.

That means it hadn't happened yet. That means there was a need here or a desire. It says in the Old Testament in Isaiah 21 and verse five, and Isaiah is speaking about a call to princes, royal princes to go to the war, the battlefield.

War is coming. Listen to what he says. Arise ye princes and anoint the shield.

Do you know one of the things you've done when you engaged in warfare? You anointed your shield. Men of old, warriors of old, armies of old, as they heard the call to war, they began to anoint their shield with new oil, fresh oil. They didn't rely on past battles.

They didn't rely on the preparation of their shield from 10 years ago or five years ago. It's a new battle. Today's battle isn't like yesterday's battle.

It's a different warfare. It's a new onslaught of hell. And you know what the call is? Ye princes in the house of God, anoint your shield for battle.

We're engaging in a warfare. And those old soldiers, what they'd done was before they went to battle, before they marched, before they engaged the enemy, they began to oil their shield again. They began to prepare their shield.

You know why? Their life depended on that shield. The shield represents faith. It's the shield that defends you from the enemy and extinguishes the fiery arcs.

And you begin to oil that shield with new oil, not old oil, not stagnant oil. You get fresh new oil, olive oil, and you begin to anoint that shield. And so David in Psalm 92 verse 10, he says, I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

He's in the house of God. It's a song, a Psalm to be sung when you're gathered with the entire house of God. You know what? You're proclaiming in God's house, I am going to be anointed with fresh oil.

I am going to receive a new touch of God. I am going to experience something of the anointing of God. I will.

I will. I'm going to. I'm here with a desire.

See this word new in verse 10. I shall be anointed with fresh oil. The word fresh there means new, brand new oil.

David is saying here, I'm going to be anointed with new oil, not old oil, not the oil of past battles, but new oil. The word new here means fresh. It means green.

It means it's been freshly squeezed from the press. This has come freshly out. It's not old.

It hasn't been sitting around. This is green. If you ever see olive oil, it's green in color.

That is its native and natural color. And so when the scripture uses this word for freshness, it is actually talking about this oil of the Holy Spirit. What it's talking about is a fresh experience.

The word fresh here, it means to be flourishing, to be fruitful, or to be young again. It means that you're no longer tired. Do you know what this contradicts? You're tired.

You're weary. You're old. There's young people in this room.

You could feel very old because of trials and troubles. Age, 10 years can come to you because of pressures mentally and emotionally. When those pressures are released, you can lose 10 years.

What is this? This is a freshness and a condition of the heart. You see, David is saying here, I shall be anointed with fresh oil, not just oil. That's not sufficient.

It's got to be fresh oil, new oil. It has got to be alive. It's got to come fresh.

There's nothing worse than something that's stale. The past couple of days, there's Anna smelling our milk, saying, is this Irish milk? Is it gone or is it still in? I want to know. There's lots of things you want to smell before.

A few days can make a difference. I don't want something old. Don't set before me the old.

Set before me something fresh and real that I need now for the battle that I'm in. That's what I need. He's speaking about something not previously used and by yourself or others.

This is something really fresh, really new, not experienced before, or at least not in that form. See, David's talking here about something future. I shall, I will, I'm going to be.

So David had a future hope and expectation coming into the house of God. He says, I am going to be anointed with fresh oil. I have a desire.

I am dissatisfied. You know, it's terrible when Christians and churches and preachers are satisfied. Oh, I had an experience with God once.

Oh, one night 20 years ago, God met with me. What about now? Don't you realize you need something now? David's in God's house. He's been anointed before.

He knows the anointing of God. You know, the ones who are most desperate for a new anointing are those who have already had it. And do you know what they're saying? I shall be.

It's not enough to say, oh, I used to be filled. I had an anointing from God. That is not sufficient.

David is one of the most anointed men of the Bible. He's called constantly the anointed of the Lord, the anointed, my anointed one. And yet here he is.

He said, I shall be anointed. Saints, have you got settled in an old experience? Are you satisfied with the old oil? Are you still talking about a past experience? But there's no fresh oil, no fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit. You have to be very careful that you don't become nominal in things, traditional in things, used to things, and you lose the desire.

But David hadn't. This is him years into his walk, years into his experience. He is not satisfied with a past experience, a past anointing, and he doesn't stay in a state of being tired and weary and needy.

He goes to the house. What's he doing? Rejoicing. He's not in defeat.

The enemy's all around him. The enemy is raging, but he's not in defeat. I'm rejoicing in your work, so God, you will triumph.

I will triumph through your work. He's not in defeat, but I want to tell you he's got real enemies, and if he's going to defeat those enemies, he needs a real anointing. What do you do when you're surrounded by enemies? I need a new anointing.

You know why? It's a battle. My shield needs anointed with fresh oil one more time. David is looking forward, not back to a past experience, and I believe in past experiences, and I believe in talking about old revivals, 1859, 1904, and hundreds of others that I can talk about.

I believe in talking about past moves of God, but it better create a hunger for, Lord, a fresh revival, a new move of God. If God has stopped all this, God help us. You think many in the church, you think he's wrapped up church history.

That's it. It's all over. Sorry, guys.

You guys are going to have to endure. I kept intervening in church history, but not your day. Get on with it.

The most evil day. The enemies raging. All hell is letting loose.

Get on with it, guys. I don't believe that. There is a fresh anointing with the oil of God.

I believe it's for us. As you begin to study oil in the Bible and anointing, you find that nobody was used by God or served God outside of the anointing. The anointing is essential for God's house.

You don't do anything in God's house unless you're anointed. No man goes in there. It takes the blood, but after the blood, it takes the anointing.

The anointing prepares you, so we see the entire priesthood of Aaron. They had to be anointed. Don't put that oil on flesh.

Be careful who you anoint. Make sure they're the right tribe, and they've been born right, and they've got the right genealogy. Don't anoint people for priesthood who were never born right.

You need a real birth. See, the priesthood had to be anointed. Their thumb, their toe, their ear.

After the blood touched those things, then they needed to be anointed. You need your ear anointed. You need your big toe anointed this morning.

You need your thumb anointed this morning. Our work, our walk, our hearing. We need the anointing of God.

You can't even listen to me without the anointing of God. I can't preach without the anointing of God. I'm begging God, anoint me.

Anoint me afresh. Oh, He's touched me many times, but I need a fresh anointing of the Spirit of God. So the Old Testament, the priesthood were anointed.

The kings were anointed. Each king was anointed with sacred oil for his task. In other words, oil and anointing is symbolic.

We know that when the priests are consecrated with oil, it is symbolic. When the kings are anointed with oil, it's symbolic. But prophets as well were anointed with oil.

In 1 Kings chapter 19, we read that Elijah is sent by God to Elisha and he's told, he's actually told this. He says, go anoint Elisha in your place, because I'm going to take you. And there needs to be a prophet to stand in that ministry.

Remember what he done? He went down to the field and there's Elisha, the young man, and he's plowing. And he went along beside him and he threw his mantle over him. Hold on.

God told Elijah, go and anoint him. Do you see how God uses symbol for spiritual experiences and spiritual truth in the Bible? But you're going to find all throughout the Old Testament, the priesthood, the kings, and the prophets, they all had to be anointed. If they're going to have a work of the Holy Spirit, they've got to be anointed with oil.

It was absolutely essential. And that oil was made up with certain ingredients. It couldn't just be made with anything.

They had to be very careful. It had to be holy oil. The specifics were very important.

And who you put it on is very, very important. Saints, before I go to my three points that I have for you here this morning, do you know that King David had three major public anointings with oil? Not one, he had three. Notice what they are.

It's 17 years old. In 1 Samuel chapter 16, verse 13, the prophet Samuel goes down to the little village of Bethlehem, led by the Spirit of God. And God says, I want you to go there and anoint a young man to be king in Israel.

Anoint him. So he takes his urn of oil. And down amongst Jesse's sons, the Spirit of God says, not him, not him, not him.

That's the one. Anoint him. He anointed him with oil.

It's outward. It's symbolic. But that was David's first anointing.

He was 17 years old. It is done in private, not a public big gathering. It's a little village of Bethlehem.

All that are gathered there are his family and his seven brothers. And here I'll tell you what, his daddy had forgotten about him. Oh, his daddy knew to call on the other sons.

He never called David. David's out there, the little shepherd boy on the hills with his harp, looking after his daddy's sheep. His daddy didn't even call him.

But you know what? There was an anointing of God, a fresh anointing of God. The first experience David ever has of the anointing of God, of the real Holy Spirit coming upon him. He had it at 17 years old.

You know what? There was a hungry heart, a thirsty heart. He's out on the hill singing, worshiping, praising, desiring God. And God sends a prophet to his own family.

And then they hang around. The prophet says, I'm not going anywhere till you call David. Daddy didn't notice David.

Mommy didn't. The brothers didn't. They thought he was proud.

Thought he was arrogant. They accused him of pride because of his words and actions and manner. But you know what? The Spirit of God seen David's heart and was separating him out, uninterested about the brothers or daddy.

He says, not a little boy I am after. And he anoints him. Does the anointing make a difference? Yes, it does.

What did David do after this? He went from the sheepfold straight to the battlefield and you find him running without armor. He's running a calath. That's the anointing of the Holy Ghost.

Since we need the power of the Holy Spirit again, we need an anointing. David experienced a real anointing that exalted him amongst men and lifted him up out of his brethren and lifted him up out of the tribes. This little shepherd boy lifted up out of his profession and suddenly thrown on the scene of time to challenge, defeat and destroy the greatest enemy of God's people.

And you know what? I'm telling you, that's how real the anointing of God is. God's anointing on an individual in the church can still do the same. If God can anoint a 17-year-old, he'll run a calath.

The entire church could be paralyzed. King Saul could be paralyzed. The anointed of God, remember? He's the anointed of God.

But guess what? It's an old anointing. It's a stale anointing. Saul, when's the last time you were anointed? Oh, I can remember decades ago.

Yeah, when you had a humble heart. When you had a humble heart, God anointed you. Now you have a foreign spirit that comes and torments you.

You used to enjoy the anointing of God. Where did that go? Since there was a 17-year-old boy who looks after sheep, but he experienced an anointing from God that's going to destroy the works of hell. Does the anointing matter? Yes, it does.

Since we need the anointing of God again, you need the anointing of God. And that's why years later, David says, I shall be anointed with fresh oil. It was the second time when he's 30 years old.

Just to say, after his first anointing, for 13 years, he's chased by Saul. Why are you anointed? To feel good? To be free of the enemy? Maybe you're anointed to engage in the enemy and to stand when he pursues against you. Maybe the anointing comes with the battle.

Oh, I'm going to get anointed and there'll be no more battle. Maybe God will anoint you and you're going to find yourself in a hellish fight. Do you know, David, for 13 years, he has to run for his life.

He has to hide in the cave of Adullam. We get Psalm 18 written because of that. Persecuted, tried.

He almost fainted. But I tell you what, he had an anointing from God. The second anointing was when he was 30 years old at the end of that time.

It's in 2 Samuel chapter 2 and verse 4, and also in chapter 5 verse 3. There was a second time Saul had just died. But do you know what happens? Saul's son gets raised up and anointed to be king of Israel. David wasn't the second king.

He was the third. Saul's son stepped into the breach for two years. Sorry, for several years.

And do you know what you get? You get a civil war breaking out between the house of David and the house of Saul. It's going to last several years. Several years.

How are you going to embark? And now Saul is gone. You're called to be the anointed of God. The call of God is there.

But here comes this other makeshift leader into the house of God. Saul's son. Not more of this.

Not more compromise. Contemporary Christianity. New worship, new manifestations, false teachings, extra biblical things going on.

No sound, solid preaching of Christ. I'm tired of it. How are you going to endure that? You need a fresh anointing with the oil of God.

And so we read that at 30 years old, David's anointed for the second time. The elders of Judah, not all Israel, Judah, call him an anoint him a second time. He's 30 years old.

The entire nation is still following the house of Saul. But here's David. He's not in the Durham anymore.

Now he's in Hebron. Hebron's one of the highest places in the land. And when he's there, the people of Judah say, we want you to reign over us.

They may not want you, but we want you. We need the anointing of God again. And a 30-year-old young man, he gets the anointing of God upon him.

Why? To rule over the house of Judah. And you know what happens? He embarks on a civil war for the next several years. He needs that anointing.

At the end of that time, he then steps into his calling, 37 years old. 2 Samuel chapter 5, we have his third public anointing. And in total, he'll reign as king of Israel for 40 years, but he's 37 years old.

A third public anointing. Let me preach here this morning on three things concerning this verse. I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

Since you desire a fresh anointing, do you feel desperately needy, dissatisfied? Do you see that the battle ahead, you don't have what it takes? You can't stand against spiritual darkness the way you are. You need a touch from God. If you're going to persevere through the situation that you're in, the family, circumstances, children, all manners of things around you, work, your environment, you need a new anointing.

Number one, the symbol of the Holy Ghost. What is this new anointing? What is this fresh anointing? What is the anointing? What is the oil? See, in the Bible, the oil is always symbolic of the Holy Spirit, the symbol of the Holy Ghost, of the Spirit of God. Oil is a symbol, a type, a picture.

Listen to what it says in 1 Samuel 16, 13. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, an animal's horn filled with oil, anointing oil. Samuel had it, this animal's horn, and he would take it to anoint someone, a horn filled with oil.

And he anointed him, that is David, in the midst of his brethren. And listen, the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Look what happened when Samuel, with this 17-year old, he poured the anointing oil on his head, oil, natural oil. There's nothing magical about it, nothing special about it. Came from Jerusalem, Israel, I guess.

That doesn't make it special. Someone once brought me a bottle of anointing oil from Israel, Jerusalem. They must have paid a lot for it.

Some people think it's more anointed than some oil we bought out of Tesco down the road. But I'm telling you, see, this oil was a symbol. There's nothing powerful about it.

Do you know what it represents? The Spirit of the Lord came on David from that day forward. He was physically anointed, but the oil and the anointing was symbolic of the person of the Holy Ghost coming upon him. I want you to see this here this morning.

The anointing is a person. It's not an experience, though it is. It's not a gift you need.

It is not some new, fresh insight or calling or gifting or ability or a ministry or to go and do things. You know what you're dealing with, with the anointing with oil? You are dealing with a real person. See, the Holy Spirit is a sovereign person.

He can be grieved. He can be quenched. He sees all things.

He indwells us. But this anointing is upon you. You can have the Holy Spirit in you and not be anointed by the power of the Holy Spirit.

This anointing comes upon real Christians. It is a real experience. And so the oil is a person.

He actually searches the inward parts of the heart. He's called Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost. You better not forget that when you're thinking about the anointing.

Out across the church of our day, lots of groups are seeking for the anointing. From Benny Hinn all the way through, he writes books on the anointing. It becomes so blemished that many genuine believers draw back from the biblical teaching because they see the confusion, the abuse, and the air that goes on in big ministries talking about being anointed of God.

Throw on your coat to knock people down. I'm telling you, we need the anointing because we're going to engage the enemy. It's real saints of God.

We're not talking about mere ministry experiences and things where we can feel the power. To be anointed of the Holy Ghost, I need the Holy Ghost to come upon me. I need him to literally mantle me.

I need to know the power of the Holy Spirit coming. Listen to what it says again in 1 Samuel chapter 10 verse 1. Then Samuel took a vial of oil. There's a different person.

So you can have people talk about the anointing, but they don't see the Holy Spirit as a person. There's lots of people who play with the anointing oil, giftings, ministries, and those things are real. But do you know what they do? They don't have holiness.

They don't have humility. They don't have purity. They don't have righteousness, but they're playing around with the anointing, giftings, ministries, and going to war on behalf of God.

You don't want to do that. Do you know in 1 Samuel 10 who it was? It was Saul who became King Saul. Then Samuel took a vial of oil.

A vial is different than a horn. Why did he use something different? Same prophet. Why a vial for Saul and a horn for David? Very interesting.

That's deliberate. Do you know a horn you pour out abundantly? A vial drips out. Drop, drop, drop.

So he takes a vial of oil and poured it upon the head of Saul and kissed him and said, is it not because the Lord has anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance? Remember what happened with Saul? What was he doing until this point? Looking for his daddy's lost donkeys. Where are they? Where are they? Let's go to a prophet and ask him. Pay him a bit of money and let's find out where daddy's donkeys have gone.

We're looking all over the place for these lost donkeys. What does he do after this? He hears a report the enemy's invading the land. He goes out, blows a trumpet, and raises up an entire army and defeats the enemy.

Do you know what that was? The anointing. The anointing of God makes a difference whether it's on David or Saul. As soon as you get anointed, I guarantee you the enemy is going to feel the power of that anointing.

The anointing isn't about feelings and giftings. It's about engaging the enemy. You're shield anointed with fresh oil.

But do you know the sad thing about Saul? The anointing meant something, but his heart was far from God. It says in Ecclesiastes 10.1, dead flies cause the ointment of the apocryphe to send forth a stinking savor. So does the little folly, him, that is in reputation for much wisdom and honor.

You could have a great testimony of wisdom and honor and respect and just be foolish and you lose your entire testimony. It's like oil stinking. This oil is prepared to anoint someone, but flies get in it.

Little creatures get in it and it begins to stink. You don't want to be anointed with that oil. Some people's anointing stinks to high heaven.

There's ministries that definitely can preach and expound the word of God. They have power and influence. They've done things in the body of Christ, but their anointing stinks to high heaven because there's flies in it.

They blemished it. We've gone through two years in the Western world, ministries after ministries falling. I heard a man one year ago in the reformed circles and he said, huh, the problem with the charismatics is their doctrine always reflects in their lifestyle.

They're immoral and fall into relationships because they don't have our doctrine. That same man was about to eat his words because his sidekick, one of the most gifted preachers in reformed circles worldwide, got caught out in sexual immorality. Hadn't been in it for five years and yet he could preach to heaven now.

We are in a seer's crisis. See that anointing, you better be careful. See, that's why I'm saying point one, the oil, the anointing oil is a symbol of the Holy Ghost.

He is holy. You're dealing with a person, not a ministry. I don't care if you can preach.

I don't care if you're the greatest preacher in the world or the nation. Are you grieving the Holy Spirit of God? If a man is quenching the Holy Spirit, grieving the Holy Spirit, disobeying inwardly the Holy Spirit, but yet he's greatly anointed, means nothing. It means nothing.

I don't want to be a Saul. Listen to how Saul finished his life. 2 Samuel chapter one, verse 21, and it talks about David and Jonathan dying on the battlefield against the Philistines in one day.

And this is what David says, for they're the shield of the mighty. Notice that the shield, the shield of the mighty man is cast away. Shield always represents faith.

Saul didn't make it to heaven. Someone argued with me once and said, no, he's regenerate. No, he wasn't.

Because David praying in the houses, God says, do not take away your mercy from me like you did with Saul. Says it in Chronicles. His shield was cast away in the field, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.

Do you realize there's certain men who have been mightily anointed and mightily used, but they're going to finish their days as if they'd never, ever been anointed with the Holy Ghost. You know why? They forgot that the anointing oil represents a person. It's not a ministry.

It's not your ministry. It's not your reputation. It's not what you can do.

This is a holy person. The third person of the Trinity. It's the Holy Spirit of God coming.

Second of all, the symbol of a new experience with the Holy Ghost. Not only the symbol of the person, this anointing is a person, but second of all, it's also an experience with the Holy Ghost. Listen again, what David writes in Psalm 89.

You know, in Psalm 89, it's about the covenant. God made a covenant with David, the sure mercies of David. That covenant that was going to be made a Calvary, all through history, God's broken in and been gracious to show men covenant and bring them into a covenant with himself.

He done it with Noah, done it with David, done it with various men through the ages. David and Saul were not in the same covenant. Saul was in a covenant of law.

While he walked right, he was fine. I'm telling you, David should have got cast out. He was in a covenant of grace.

But this second point, a new experience. Listen to what David says in Psalm 89 verse 19. It says he had a vision from God and God spoke to him and revealed this to him.

What's a vision compared to a dream? What's the difference? A dream is at night. A vision is when you're awake. You have it with eyes.

You have a vision. It's like a dream, but you're awake. You're not sleeping at night.

So, God gives a vision to David. Listen to what he says in this vision. There's God speaking to David.

I have exalted one chosen out of the people. I have found David my servant. With my holy oil have I anointed him.

Do you see behind the anointing? God is choosing and is searching. I found David. You know why I found him? I wanted to anoint him with my holy oil.

The oil just wasn't physical or symbolic. God actually was pursuing, seeking for David in order to anoint him. In other words, God had a desire that David had experiences of the anointing.

Have you experienced the anointing of God? Are you like David at 17 who hasn't yet experienced that? See, when you experience the anointing of God, unless you grow very dead and dry and move away from God, you become very insatiably hungry. Do it again, Lord. Do it again, Lord.

I'm so needy. Soon as you get dry, you go back and say, anoint me with fresh oil. I need a new experience.

See, God showed David that God had sought after him. And notice what happened. And anointed him with oil with whom my hand shall be established.

Mine arm also shall strengthen him. This is the result of the anointing. God establishing him.

God strengthening him. The enemy shall not exact upon him. In other words, the enemy isn't going to overcome him.

Do you realize you've got real enemies? We have watched people overcome by the devil in this church. You have watched friends overcome by the devil. The devil exacts himself.

See, this anointing, it is to lift you, to strengthen you. So the enemy won't touch you. He won't grapple with you.

He goes on, this is what the Lord says, says, and the son of wickedness afflict him.
