Silence in the shearinghouse

Isaiah 53. Our brother Scott has started with us on Saturday morning Isaiah 53 verse 4 surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we did a stream and steam him stricken smitten of God and afflicted down verse 7 he was oppressed and he was afflicted yet he opened not his mouth he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter and as the sheep before the shears is dumb so he openeth not his mouth and one more verse 10 yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him we hardly take that in he had put him to grief when thou shalt make it a soul an offering for sin he shall see a seed he shall prolong his days and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand but coming back to verse number 7 let me read it with you or to you again he was oppressed and he was afflicted yet he opened not his mouth he's brought as a lamb to the slaughter and as the sheep before shears is dumb so openly so open he not his mouth if you were to take a study of shearing scenes of shearing or shearing houses in the Word of God they're never pleasant scenes too often they were associated with evil but there is an exception and there certainly is one here the shearing house not that I know nothing about it because I don't but I can share with you a few things I do know we could speak about the sequence of his shearing I want to think of the shearing that took place relative to the Son of God we can think of the sequence of the shearing house you know he was taken from prison and from judgment and then of course in Luke chapter 23 they both when they knew that he belonged under Harris jurisdiction they sent him to Herod and so on and then of course he's taken from prison the restraint taken from judgment justice mark 15 Pilate answered and said will you that I release unto you the king of the Jews so there's a sequence to it also there's a sentence a sentence in the shearing house and that's so true isn't it John 19 verse 6 when the chief priest therefore an officer saw him they cried out saying crucify him crucify him Pilate said then I'm taking him and crucify him for I find no fault in him but I'm not thinking so much this morning of the sequence of the shearing house or the sentence of the shearing house but I want to think of the silence in the shearing house the silence in the shearing house I've enjoyed this some time ago and thought about it much since and it's just brought to my attention just if you could somehow visualize it taking place him standing there the one who spoke creations of worlds into existence and suddenly there's a tremendous silence and he's brought as we read together here as he's brought as a lamb to the slaughter and as his sheep before he shears his dumb soul not his mouth now the change of the lamb to the sheep and that we'll leave that to the theologians but I just want to think of what really is taking place here if you would allow me to apply it ok Genesis chapter 3 is likely one of the first shearings that's in our Bible because the truth of the word unto Adam and also his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins and clothe them some animal had to be sheared by a divine hand it was these are different hands that we have here in Isaiah 53 so why did the Lord God and again I'm just applying it make them coats of skin why was that so essential just at that time when fellowships broken and the world is literally cast by a federal head into sin and iniquity is by one man sin entered into the world why the coats of skin is every time sin brings coldness Adam was cold Peter was cold when he got away from the Lord fortunately sought warmth of the world's fires if anything this conference could do I trust it has done is warmness is warmness we're enjoying the fact that we've been clothed in a righteousness not our own and not of God but wonderful brothers and sisters to enjoy the warmth of what really has taken place when we think of Calvary when I think of other sheep shearing I think of Laban's house and it's very interesting who's surprised that Laban's name was linked with shearing he knew how to shear sheep likely was pretty good at it but his daughters caught on to it too while he was shearing sheep they were shearing him and there were experts at it and suddenly when it was too late he realized that they had taken away you know he not only taught them how to shepherd sheep because they were shepherdesses but he taught them how to shear sheep not sure how good I would be at at any of them at any of that job the Lord never gave me the responsibility of a shepherd is it any wonder I'm not sure I could as I tell people I'm not sure I could put up with a guff at times okay just can't do it I admire our leaders and true shepherds that will stand not afraid at the cost of maybe the frowns maybe in friendships with certain individuals but having done as the Apostle says to stand Nabel that's another scene where there was sheep shearing and he was a terrible man just a terrible man I know women saved and unsaved that live with men like Nabel's just men that are rude and ignorant and inconsiderate couldn't take David's kindness couldn't speak a word about David so that was another scene I could take you to others in the Word of God but that that was suffice or what I really have in mind as I think of this shearing house dumb as a sheep before her shears is dumb so open he not his mouth I was thinking the other day our brother Tim took me to a I think was a hog big hog slaying house out here if you like or they were killing hogs I can remember this day the squealing and noise and everything going on you can hardly hear yourself think I read the story of a man that went to a sheep shearing scene in New Zealand he said what captivated his attention was the quietness of the place he says there was quietness other than hearing their little hooves moving he said there was absolute quietness he says as I watched those men with their electric shears and in Bible days they didn't have electric shears and then they were they would take off that lamb that sheep what really identified it they just took the identity and the identification of it away in the dignity that it had a sheep doesn't look good after sheared he says what impressed me was the man that would come behind and put the ointment on the little red marks for that sheep had been nicked some of us know what it is to sit in the barber's chair if he doesn't I'm glad brother Dwayne isn't here from Manchester don't see him anyhow he's never nicked me but some have you know he's oh I'm very sorry wasn't very pleasant was it you know he said there wasn't a sheep that there wasn't a number of marks upon because I never heard anything I never heard any squeal from them done before shears same as our Savior there is no cry because of the agony and because of what he was suffering and what he was going through and he's doing it for us and to think I want to think of different things that they wanted to shear him of they want to shear him of his deity they were determined to do that that's why in John chapter 2 the Jews answered saying for a good work we stonely not but for blasphemy because now being a man make us thyself God they wanted to shear him of his dignity didn't want to acknowledge him of a king let alone as God we're so thankful today that the one who came was God manifest in the flesh not only did they want to shear him of his deity they wanted to share him of his humanity you put that right in the same verse oh they said this is the son of the carpenter you know that this is this is him but said the writer of the Hebrews looking out to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him despised or endured the cross despising the shame they sit down on the right hand the majesty and high enduring the cross think of the endurance of it we measure time and hours I believe one of those that believe that all the sufferings of Christ were necessary for the putting away of my sins those dark hours on dark called dark Golgotha no human I knew human thought can really reach the level I was taking place when he was buried my sins in his own body on the tree yet he is forgiven us I'm not sure if it was Alan Redpath or one of those he wrote a story he said he made one visit to the sheep slaughterhouse he'd never go back again as he went on to describe what took place what broke his heart it's the particular sheep that he watched came up the man that took that animal and slit his throat with a knife before that sheep dropped to the ground the last thing it did was it licked the blood of it off his hand almost as if he was forgiving that sheep was forgiving the one that took his life brethren and sisters think of it we caused his death is my sins that put him on the tree and we're here this morning to worship him and to thank him and praising him for his love to us oh thank God for the forgiveness of our sin thank God that the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sin so they want to share my business deity want to share my business humanity want to share my royalty just couldn't take it if I'll be in a king you know just just couldn't take that there's just some we have no King but Caesar God's held on that to that to this very day okay who is plundered and robbed more than the nation of Israel when they said his blood be upon us and on our children that's exactly what's happening and will happen in the coming day to a far greater extent than what we see now we have a young Jewish couple that come to our gospel meeting occasionally very friendly couple and came to our house one time and I just like to talk to him about Israel met his parents and his father came out to a gospel meeting too so I said so you're a Jew don't know he says Maurice I'm not a Jew he says Jew is usually an Orthodox person and follows the Jewish tradition and you know they're very tenaciously Jews so I'm just an Israeli but he said my sister's a Jew the only thing is he says she behaves worse than me but she's still a Jew okay he's never really saw his need yet everything that took place at Calvary you go through that you read those Gospels they're inexhaustible all the robbing and the assaults and the insults the nation will pay for that someday we see them paying for it today and the measure that it is but more than that not only did they want to assure him of his humanity now he's the one who says come now let us reason together I says that I know it's you take it primarily to the nation Isaiah chapter 1 we preach in the gospel I preach in the gospel as well as our other brethren do let us reason together though your sins be as scarlet they shall be white as snow though they be red like crimson they shall be as wool so he was oppressed as the verse says and he was afflicted yet yet he opened not his mouth marvelous to think of that brought as a lamb to the slaughter as a sheep before shears is dumb so opened he not his mouth think of what he could have spoken one word they were done one word that he was free thank God for the one who before his shears was dumb thank God for the truth of this passage being written so many years ago even before crucifixion was Psalm 22 before crucifixion was known as a means of death we have those words which gives to us such proof of the accuracy and the truth of the book that is very dear to us this morning in the Bible so may we go away from here and think of what our Savior did and what he endured sometimes and I have to confess there's no there's likely nobody in this audience quicker with the tongue than I am here's one who held his tongue who held his tongue Solomon says it is the wise man that does that but when it says he is dumb before shears it goes beyond just what he might have said there's nothing in his thoughts there's nothing in his thoughts that were contrary to what was taking place or what was happening so you just enjoy this little passage this verse verse number seven is I leave it with you this morning just something I personally enjoyed I want to share with you as we conclude our breaking of bread this morning our worship of the Son of God
