εὐσεβής [page 265] εὐσεβής occurs in a somewhat general sense in P Flor III. 338 .2 (iii/A.D.) εὐσεβὲς τὸ πρᾶγμα ποιεῖς , ἐὰν ποιήσῃς τὸ βιβλίδιον ἐκεῖνο ὡς ἐγύμνασα αὐτὸ σύν σοι ἐν τῇ πόλει : it is applied to taxes in P Cairo Preis 4 .9 (A.D. 320) ἐγεώργησα πλεῖστα ἀναλώματα ποιησάμενος ὑπὲρ τοῦ εὐμαρῶς δύνασθαί με διαλύσασθαι τὰς εὐσεβεῖς εἰσφοράς . For its use as an Imperial designation (= Pius ), from the close of ii/A.D., see P Hamb I. 13 .2 (A.D. 210) ἔτους ῑη̄ Λουκίου Σεπτιμίου Σ̣ε̣ουήρου Εὐσεβοῦς Περτίνακος κτλ ., with the editor s note. In the Commagene rescript (see s.v. εὐσέβεια ) we find στεφανούτω πάντας τοῖς χρυσοῖς στεφάνοις , οὓς ἐγὼ καθιέρωσα δαιμόνων εὐσεβέσι τιμαῖς ( OGIS 383 .139 ). Interesting too are the occurrences in Egyptian sepulchral inscrr., as Preisigke 2048 (ii/B.C.) Πτολεμαῖε χρηστέ , χαῖρε , καὶ εὐσεβῶν ἵκοιο χῶρον , and the poetical inscr. edited by Rubensohn in Archiv v. p. 164, where one of the lines runs Μίνω σύνθωκος δ᾽ εἰμὶ παρ᾽ εὐσεβέσιν .
