Moulton & Milligan — Vocabulary of the Greek NT

ἦχος [page 282] For the masc. ὁ ἦχος (as in Heb_12:19 ) cf. P Leid W x. 3 (ii/iii A.D.) The gen. ἠχοῦς from the fem. ἡ ἠχώ is, however, read by the editor in ib. 51 σὺ μὲν ἐξ ἠχοῦς εἶ , οὗτος δὲ ἐκ φθόγγου : cf. Luk_21:25 , where WH similarly accent ἠχοῦς , stating ( Notes .2 , p. 165) that the direct Bibl. evidence for the neut. τὸ ἦχος is confined to Jer_28:16 [MT Jer_51:16 ] ΰ AB, where ἦχος is apparently an accusative. For masc. nouns passing into the neut., in accordance with a not uncommon practice in Hellenistic, see Hatziakis Einl. p. 356 ff., Proleg. p. 60.

Liddell-Scott — Intermediate Greek Lexicon
