to attack, to assault to use sudden physical force against someone as the outgrowth of a hostile attitude In a number of languages the equivalent of ‘to attack’ is simply ‘to start fighting against.’ In some languages, however, the equivalent is ‘to jump on’ or ‘to grab to do harm to.’
1 It is possible that κατεφίσταμαι is somewhat stronger in meaning than ἐφίσταμαι[d], but it is impossible to be certain of such a distinction on the basis of NT contexts.
