to roll about, to wallow the motion of an object rolling back and forth or rolling about It is rare that one can use in a language the same or related terms for the rolling of a person in an epileptic fit and the wallowing of a pig in the mud. The first is chaotic and uncontrolled, while the second is both purposeful and slower.
1 It is, of course, impossible for an object to roll without some movement in space; however, the focus here is not upon the linear movement of an object from one place to another by means of rolling, but simply the motion in and of itself, and any movement in space is irrelevant.

κύλισμα, -ros, τό, (xuAiw, q. v.), thing rolled: with epexeget. gen. βορβόρου, rolled (wallowed) mud or mire, 2 Pet. ii. 22 [RGLTrmrg.]. The great majority take the word to mean ‘wallowing-place’, as if it were the same as κυλίστρα, (Vulg. in volutabro luti). But just as τὸ ἐξέραμα signifies the vomit, thing vomited, and not the place of vomiting; so τὸ κύλισμα denotes nothing else than the thing rolled or wallowed. But see [the foll. word, and] βόρβορος.

κυλισμός. The form κυλισμός, “rolling,” which is read in the best texts of 2 Pet 2525, is found in Prov 2138 (Theod.). For κύλισμα, as in the TR, cf. Ezek 10!% (Symm.), where, however, the word has its proper meaning, ‘‘something rolled round,” rather than a “‘rolling-place” as in the Petrine passage. In P Hib I. 110 (ili/B.c.) certain documents are described as κυλιστοί, “‘rolls.” According to the editors the difference from ἐπιστολαί, which are also mentioned, was ‘‘ perhaps one of size rather than of contents”: cf. also Preisighe 7 (iii/A.D.) κυλιστοὺς ἱματίων δέκα.
