πρόκειμαι; (πρό (which see d. α.) and κεῖμαι): from Homer down; 1. properly, to lie or be placed before (a person or thing), or in front (often so in Greek writings). 2. to be set before, i. e., a. to be placed before the eyes, to lie in sight; to stand forth: with a predicate nominative, δεῖγμα, as an example, Jud_1:7 (καλόν ὑπόδειγμα σοι πρόκειται, Josephus, b. j. 6, 2, 1). b. equivalent to to be appointed, destined: προκειμενη ἐλπίςt';, the hope open to us, offered, given, Heb_6:18; used of those things which by any appointment are destined to be done, borne, or attained by anyone; so προκειμενος ἀγών, Heb_12:1; προκειμενος χαρά, the destined joy (see ἀντί, 2 b.), ibid. 2 (the phrase τά ἆθλα προκεῖσθαι occurs often in secular writings from Herodotus down; cf. Bleek, Br. an die Heb_2:2, p. 268ff). c. to be there, be present, be at hand (so that it can become actual or available): 2Co_8:12.

πρόκειμαι [page 541] in the participle is common = set forth, aforesaid, e.g. P Lond 44 .10 (B.C. 161) (= I. p. 34, UPZ i. p. 140) τυγχάνω ἐν τῆι κατοχῆι γεγονὼς τὰ προκείμενα ἔτη , P Tebt II. 294 .8 f. (A.D. 146) β [ούλομα ]ι ὠνήσασθαι τὴν τοῦ προκιμένου ἱεροῦ προφη [τ ]εία [ν ] εἰς π [ρ ]ᾶσιν π [ρ ]οκιμένην ἔτι πάλαι , I wish to purchase the office of prophet in the aforesaid temple which has been for a long time offered for sale (Edd.), ib. 293 .23 ( c. A.D. 187) ὤμοσα τὸν προκείμενον ὅρκον κ [α ]θὼς πρόκειται , I have sworn the above oath as aforesaid (Edd.), and the Gnostic charm P Oxy XII. 1478 .4 (iii/iv A.D.) δὸς νείκην . . . τῷ προκειμένῳ Σαραπάμμωνι , give victory to the aforesaid Sarapammon : cf. also the letter regarding funeral expenses P Grenf II. 77 .28 (iii/iv A.D.) (= Selections , p. 121) μισθοῦ ὡς πρόκ (ειται )(δραχμαι ) τ̄μ̄ , cost (for the transport of the body) as set forth above 340 drachmae. Πρόκειμαι passes readily into the meaning am present, am there, as in 2Co_8:12 : ct. P Lond 1201 .2 (B.C. 161) (= III. p. 4) διὰ τῆς προκειμένης συγγραφῆς , and P Oxy II. 255 .17 (A.D. 48) (= Selections , p. 47) τὴ [ν π ]ροκειμένην [γρα ]φήν with reference to a census.
