Moulton & Milligan — Vocabulary of the Greek NT
προσωπολημπτέω [page 553]
have respect of persons, favour specially ( Jas_2:9 ). The verb and the two cognate substantives προσωπολήμπτης and προσωπολημψία are not found in the LXX, and may be reckoned amongst the earliest definitely Christian words. They belong to Palestinian Greek, being derived from πρόσωπον λαμβάνειν , the Hebraistic τΘπΔιν πΘωÒΘΰ , lift the face on a person, in the sense of being favourable to him, and hence, as always in the NT, to show undue favour or partiality.
