sparingly, in a limited manner pertaining to what is done in a limited, sparing manner and of negligible quantity or extent In 2CO 9:6 φειδομένως is obviously in contrast with the phrase ἐπ ̓ εὐλογίαις ‘abundantly’ (59.56). It may, however, be necessary to indicate clearly the nature of that which is sown or reaped sparingly, for example, ‘the one who plants only a small amount of seed will have only a very small harvest.’

φειδομένως. This rare adv., which in Biblical Greek is confined to 2 Cor 98 (but see Prov 2115) occurs in Plut. Avex, xxv. νῦν δὲ φειδομένως χρῶ τοῖς παροῦσι, ‘‘now, however, use sparingly what thou hast.
