Characteristics of a Leader

10 sermons

The biblical concept of leadership is rooted in the idea of servant-hood and humility, as exemplified by Jesus Christ, who came "not to be served, but to serve" (Mark 10:45). A leader in the Christian faith is characterized by qualities such as wisdom, integrity, and compassion, as seen in the lives of biblical figures like Moses, who led the Israelites with humility and faith (Numbers 12:3), and David, who shepherded his people with a heart after God (Psalms 23:1). According to the apostle Paul, a leader must also demonstrate selflessness and a willingness to sacrifice for the benefit of others, as he writes in Philippians 2:3-4, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves." By emulating these characteristics, Christian leaders can effectively serve and guide their communities, ultimately pointing others to Christ.
