Collective Prayer

10 sermons

Collective prayer is a fundamental aspect of Christian worship, emphasized throughout the Bible as a means of fostering unity and communing with God. In the New Testament, Jesus teaches his disciples to pray together, using the plural "our" in the Lord's Prayer, "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name" (Matthew 6:9-13), highlighting the importance of collective prayer. The apostle Paul also encourages believers to pray for one another, as seen in his exhortation to the Ephesians to "pray for each other" (Ephesians 6:18), and in his own practice of praying with and for the churches he founded, giving thanks for them in his prayers (Philippians 1:3-4). Through collective prayer, Christians participate in the body of Christ, bearing each other's burdens and sharing in each other's joys, as exemplified in the early church's devotion to prayer and fellowship (Acts 2:42).
