Crucifying Flesh

1 sermons

Crucifying the flesh is a profound biblical concept that speaks to the believer's call to deny sinful desires and live in accordance with the Spirit. In Galatians 5:24, Paul writes, 'And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.' This act of crucifixion symbolizes a decisive break from the dominion of sin, aligning with Jesus' teaching in Matthew 16:24, where He instructs His followers to 'deny themselves and take up their cross.' The process of crucifying the flesh is not merely a one-time event but an ongoing journey of sanctification, as outlined in Romans 12:1-2, where believers are urged to present their bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. In doing so, they are transformed by the renewing of their minds, allowing them to discern God's will. Furthermore, the struggle against the flesh is acknowledged in Romans 7:18, where Paul confesses the internal battle between his desires and the law of God. Ultimately, crucifying the flesh leads to a life empowered by the Spirit, as emphasized in Galatians 5:16, which calls believers to 'walk by the Spirit' and experience the fruits of a life surrendered to Christ.
