Entitlement

1 sermons

Entitlement is a concept that often permeates human thought, leading individuals to believe they deserve certain privileges or benefits based on their status or actions. However, the Bible presents a counter-narrative that emphasizes humility and gratitude. In Philippians 2:3-4, Paul instructs believers to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but to consider others better than themselves, highlighting the importance of selflessness over entitlement. Jesus, in Matthew 20:26-28, teaches that greatness in the kingdom of God is marked by servanthood, stating that the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve. This radical shift in perspective encourages Christians to view their lives through the lens of grace rather than entitlement. Furthermore, in James 4:6, we learn that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble, reinforcing the idea that a spirit of entitlement is contrary to the humility that God values. As believers reflect on their identity in Christ, they are reminded in Ephesians 2:8-9 that salvation is a gift from God, not a result of works, which further dismantles any notion of entitlement. Ultimately, embracing a posture of gratitude and service aligns with the biblical call to live out our faith in love and humility.
