Eternal City

1 sermons

The Eternal City, often understood as the New Jerusalem, represents the ultimate fulfillment of God's promise to His people, as described in Revelation 21:2, where John sees the holy city coming down from heaven. This celestial city embodies the hope of eternal life and communion with God, contrasting sharply with the transient nature of earthly existence. In Hebrews 11:10, we learn that Abraham looked forward to a city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God, highlighting the faith of the patriarchs in the promises of God. Furthermore, Revelation 21:4 assures us that in this New Jerusalem, God will wipe away every tear, and death will be no more, encapsulating the profound peace and joy that awaits believers. Jesus, in Matthew 5:14, speaks of His followers as a city set on a hill, indicating that the values of the Eternal City should be reflected in the lives of Christians today. As we consider the significance of the Eternal City, we are reminded of our calling to live in light of eternity, striving for holiness and sharing the hope of the Gospel, as we await the glorious return of Christ and the establishment of His everlasting kingdom.
