1 sermons

Flattery in the Bible often carries a negative connotation, associated with deceitful praise and manipulation rather than genuine affirmation. This suggests that flattery is not merely harmless praise but can lead to destruction and betrayal. In the New Testament, flattery is also viewed unfavorably, as seen in passages like Romans 16:17-18, where Paul warns against those who use smooth talk and flattery to deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting. The overarching biblical perspective indicates that flattery is often used to gain favor or manipulate others for personal gain, contrasting with the call to speak truthfully and with love (Ephesians 4:15). Thus, the Scriptures encourage sincerity and honesty, warning against the dangers of insincere praise that can lead to harmful outcomes.
