Remnant Theology

1 sermons

Remnant Theology refers to the concept in the Bible that God preserves a faithful group of people, often referred to as the "remnant," during times of judgment, apostasy, or widespread disobedience. This theology emphasizes that even when the majority of a community or nation turns away from God, He remains faithful to His covenant promises by maintaining a small, chosen group that embodies true faith and obedience. The notion of a remnant is prevalent in both the Old and New Testaments. For instance, in Isaiah 10:20-22, it is prophesied that a remnant of Israel will return to the Lord, illustrating God's commitment to preserving a faithful remnant amidst national calamity. In the New Testament, Remnant Theology finds expression in the church as Paul articulates in Romans 11:5, where he notes, “So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.” This reinforces the idea that God’s grace is operative in preserving a faithful community, even in the face of unbelief. The concept serves as a source of hope and encouragement, reminding believers that God’s purpose will be fulfilled through His remnant, and that they are called to remain faithful despite external circumstances. This theme underscores the sovereignty of God in salvation history and the importance of faithfulness to His calling.
