Caring for the sick and afflicted is a fundamental aspect of Christian living, as Jesus teaches that serving others is equivalent to serving Him. In Matthew 25:35-45, He emphasizes the importance of visiting the sick and providing for their needs, while Matthew 7:12 encourages believers to treat others with kindness and compassion. The apostle Paul writes in Galatians 6:10 to do good to all people, especially those in the household of faith, and 1 Peter 3:8 reminds believers to show sympathy and love to one another. Additionally, Matthew 10:8 records Jesus' instruction to His disciples to heal the sick and care for those in need.

For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’ Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? When did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?’ And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’ Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, I was naked and you did not clothe Me, I was sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ And they too will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then the King will answer, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.’
In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to the family of faith.
Finally, all of you, be like-minded and sympathetic, love as brothers, be tenderhearted and humble.
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him?
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
