6 Bible Verses on It Is Finished

6 verses

When Jesus uttered His final words on the cross, He declared that His work of redemption was complete. The Gospel of John records this momentous statement, as Jesus said, "It is finished" (John 19:30), signifying the fulfillment of God's plan to save humanity through His sacrifice. The book of Hebrews explains that Christ's death was a once-for-all atonement, never to be repeated (Hebrews 9:24-26), and that His work was motivated by God's love for the world, as seen in John 3:16. By completing His mission, Jesus ensured that believers would have eternal life, and as Hebrews 9:27 and John 17:4 attest, His finished work on the cross has secured their salvation forever.

When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished.” And bowing His head, He yielded up His spirit.
For Christ did not enter a man-made copy of the true sanctuary, but He entered heaven itself, now to appear on our behalf in the presence of God. Nor did He enter heaven to offer Himself again and again, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. Otherwise, Christ would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Just as man is appointed to die once, and after that to face judgment,
I have glorified You on earth by accomplishing the work You gave Me to do.
After this, knowing that everything had now been accomplished, and to fulfill the Scripture, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of sour wine was sitting there. So they soaked a sponge in the wine, put it on a stalk of hyssop, and lifted it to His mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished.” And bowing His head, He yielded up His spirit.
