20 Bible Verses on Multiple Wives

20 verses

In biblical times, the practice of having multiple wives was not uncommon, as seen in the accounts of various kings and leaders, including Solomon, who had 700 wives and 300 concubines, as recorded in 1 Kings 11:3. However, Exodus 21:10 and Deuteronomy 17:17 reveal that God's ideal for marriage is one of monogamy and faithfulness. The New Testament further clarifies this, with 1 Corinthians 7:2 and 1 Timothy 3:2 teaching that having one wife is the standard for Christian leaders and believers. This emphasis on monogamy reflects God's design for marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
