In the New Testament, the church is often depicted as the beloved of Christ, with a deep and abiding union between the two. Ephesians 5:25-27 describes how Christ nourishes and cherishes His church, presenting it to Himself in all its glory. This beautiful relationship is also illustrated in Revelation 19:7-9, where the church is prepared as a bride for her husband, and in 2 Corinthians 11:2, where Paul expresses his desire to present the church to Christ as a chaste virgin. As seen in Revelation 21:2 and John 3:29, this heavenly marriage is a future reality, one that is anticipated with great joy and celebration.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.
Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him the glory. For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. For your husband is your Maker— the LORD of Hosts is His name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; He is called the God of all the earth.
Then one of the seven angels with the seven bowls full of the seven final plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

Its radiance was like a most precious jewel, like a jasper, as clear as crystal.
For as a young man marries a young woman, so your sons will marry you; and as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.
