10 Bible Verses on Worldly Things

10 verses

Scripture warns believers against becoming entangled in the desires and values of the world, which can lead to spiritual compromise and separation from God. In 1 John, the apostle cautions against loving the world, while Colossians urges setting one's mind on things above, not on earthly things. James and Ephesians also caution against friendship with the world, which is at odds with God, and against participating in its unfruitful works. Romans reminds believers to be transformed by renewing their minds, rather than conforming to the world's patterns, in order to live a life that honors God.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not from the Father but from the world. The world is passing away, along with its desires; but whoever does the will of God remains forever.
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
James 4:4
You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
Have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone. It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.
