10 Bible Verses on Your Spouse

10 verses

In the biblical view, marriage is a sacred institution established by God, with the relationship between spouses being a profound reflection of God's love for humanity. The apostle Paul teaches that husbands should love their wives with the same selfless devotion that Christ shows to the church, as seen in Ephesians 5:25. The Bible also emphasizes the importance of faithfulness and commitment in marriage, warning against adultery in Exodus 20:14 and encouraging believers to honor marriage in Hebrews 13:4. Additionally, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 describes the kind of patient, kind, and enduring love that should characterize the relationship between spouses.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs. Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
You shall not commit adultery.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her
Marriage should be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.
What if He did this to make the riches of His glory known to the vessels of His mercy, whom He prepared in advance for glory—
“For I hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel. “He who divorces his wife covers his garment with violence,” says the LORD of Hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith.
Some Pharisees came to test Him. “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” they inquired. “What did Moses command you?” He replied. They answered, “Moses permitted a man to write his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away.” But Jesus told them, “Moses wrote this commandment for you because of your hardness of heart. However, from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” When they were back inside the house, the disciples asked Jesus about this matter. So He told them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.”
He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.
Titus 1:6
An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, having children who are believers and who are not open to accusation of indiscretion or insubordination.
To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If a brother has an unbelieving wife and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. And if a woman has an unbelieving husband and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his believing wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. But if the unbeliever leaves, let him go. The believing brother or sister is not bound in such cases. God has called you to live in peace. How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?
