BSA1 Then Moses [the Israelite leader, born to Amram and Jochebed] assembled [gathered, summoned] the whole congregation [gathering of people, crowd] of Israel and said to them, “These [specific, particular] are the things [words, commands, matters] that the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] has commanded [given orders, appointed] you to do [make, perform, carry out]: word study 2 For six [six days of labor] days work [labor, employment, or occupation] may be done, but the seventh [the Sabbath day, a day of rest] day shall be your holy [set apart, sacred] day, a Sabbath [a day of rest, a time for worship] of complete [total, absolute] rest to the LORD [Yehovah, the one true God]. Whoever does any work [labor, or employment] on that day must be put to death [executed, or killed]. word study 3 Do not [refrain from, cease] light a fire [kindle, burn] in any of your dwellings [homes, habitations, seats] on the Sabbath day [day of rest, day of worship, the sabbath].” word study 4 Moses [the Israelite leader, born to Amram and Jochebed] also told the whole [entire, all-inclusive] congregation [gathering, assembly] of Israel [the symbolic name of Jacob, referring to his descendants], “This [specific, particular] is what the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] has commanded [given orders, appointed]: word study 5 Take [collect, gather] from among you an offering [contribution, gift] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]. Let everyone whose heart [inner being, will] is willing [noble, generous] bring an offering [gift, sacrifice] to the LORD: gold [a valuable metal], silver [a precious commodity], and bronze [a strong alloy]; word study 6 blue [violet, obtained from a specific type of mussel], purple [royal, luxurious], and scarlet [deep red, crimson] yarn; fine linen [white, luxurious] and goat [she-goat, kid] hair; word study 7 ram skins dyed [dyed or tanned] red [to redden, flushed] and fine leather [or badgers’ skins, sealskins]; acacia wood [shittim wood, from thorny trees]; word study 8 olive oil [for the lamps, to maintain lights] for the light [happiness or cheerfulness]; spices [sweet perfume, fragrance] for the anointing [consecrated] oil [olive oil, ointment] and for the fragrant [sweet, aromatic] incense [a pleasing aroma to God]; word study 9 and onyx stones [valuable, precious gems] and gemstones [stones to be set, for the adorning] to be mounted [set, installed] on the ephod [a special vest, for the high priest] and breastpiece [a sacred pouch, for the Urim and Thummim]. word study 10 Let every [wise-hearted] skilled craftsman [with a prudent and intelligent heart] among you come [approach, enter into this work] and make [create, bring into existence] everything [all things, the entirety] that the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] has commanded [given orders, appointed]: word study 11 the tabernacle [the sacred dwelling place, the House] with its tent [pavilion, nomad’s home] and covering [physical shelter, weatherboarding], its clasps [hooks, fasteners] and frames [boards, planks], its crossbars [bars, bolts], posts [pillars, columns], and bases [sockets, foundations]; word study 12 the ark [sacred chest, money chest] with its poles [staves, bars] and mercy seat [golden lid, atonement cover], and the veil [curtain, screen] to shield [cover, hide] it; word study 13 the table [a place of communion] with its poles [bars, staves], all its utensils [vessels, equipment], and the Bread of the Presence [showbread, sacred bread, food offered to God]; word study 14 the lampstand [candlestick, chandelier] for light [happiness, cheerfulness] with its accessories [furniture, utensils] and lamps [devices for guidance] and oil [olive oil] for the light [spiritual illumination, God’s presence]; word study 15 the altar [place of sacrifice] of incense [sweet smoke, fragrance] with its poles [staves, carrying bars]; the anointing [consecrated, holy] oil [olive oil, ointment] and fragrant [sweet, aromatic] incense [spice, perfume]; the curtain [covering, veil] for the doorway [entrance, gate] at the entrance [threshold, opening] to the tabernacle [sacred tent, dwelling place]; word study 16 the altar [place of sacrifice, for burnt offerings] of burnt offering [a step or stairs, often used to describe the ascent to the altar] with its bronze [copper or something made of it] grate [lattice-work, a barrier or partition], its poles [staves, used for carrying], and all [everything, the whole] its utensils [articles, tools, or objects]; the basin [a round container, a platform or stage] with its stand [base, pedestal, or foundation]; word study 17 the curtains [hangings, screens] of the courtyard [court, open space] with its posts [pillars, columns] and bases [sockets, foundations], and the curtain [covering, veil] for the gate [door, entrance] of the courtyard [court, outer court]; word study 18 the tent pegs [nails, pins] for the tabernacle [a special tent where God met with the Israelites] and for the courtyard [a village, open space], along with their ropes [cords, strings]; word study 19 and the woven [finely wrought, beautifully crafted] garments for ministering [serving, acting as priests] in the holy place [sanctuary, set-apart area]—both the holy [sacred, consecrated] garments for Aaron [the first high priest] the priest [spiritual leader, mediator] and the garments for his sons [descendants, spiritual successors] to serve [minister, officiate] as priests [spiritual leaders, intermediaries].” word study 20 Then the whole [entire, all-inclusive] congregation [gathering, assembly] of Israel [the descendants of Jacob, God’s chosen people] withdrew [departed, went away] from the presence [face, before] of Moses [the leader, prophet]. word study 21 And everyone [whose heart was moved, whose spirit was willing] whose heart [the seat of feelings and intellect] stirred him and whose spirit [the breath of life] prompted him came and brought an offering [a contribution, a gift] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] for the work [labor, employment] on the Tent [Ohel, a nomad’s home] of Meeting [a sacred appointed time], for all [every, everything] its services [serving God or others], and for the holy [set apart, sacred] garments [clothing or a covering]. word study 22 So all [every single one, everything] who had willing [noble, generous, free-hearted] hearts, both men [male individuals] and women [female persons], came and brought brooches [pins, nose-rings] and earrings [ear-rings, signet-rings], rings [signet-rings, armlets] and necklaces [neck-ornaments, all kinds of gold jewelry], and all kinds [every type, various] of gold [valuable, brilliant] jewelry. And they all presented [offered, gave, waved] their gold [treasured possessions] as a wave offering [a specific type of offering] to the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God]. word study 23 Everyone [all individuals, every person] who had blue [a valuable dye], purple [a royal color], or scarlet [worm-based, deep red] yarn, or fine linen [luxurious fabric], goat hair [from female goats], ram skins dyed red [made crimson], or articles of fine leather [a type of animal hide], brought them. word study 24 And all [every single one, without exception] who could present an offering [contribution, gift] of silver [money, wealth] or bronze [copper, a base metal] brought it as a contribution [offering, tribute] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]. Also, everyone who had acacia wood [shittim wood, a strong and durable wood] for any part of the service [work, ministry] brought it. word study 25 Every [wise-hearted] skilled woman [with a wise and discerning heart] spun [twisted threads together, to spin with skill] with her hands [using her strength and ability] and brought what she had spun [fine, luxurious]: blue [violet, from the mussel dye], purple [royal, from the conch shell], or scarlet [deep red, from the coccus ilicis insect] yarn, or fine [white, luxurious] linen. word study 26 And all [every single one] the skilled [wise, knowledgeable] women [females, wives] whose hearts [inner beings, will] were stirred [lifted, inspired] spun [twisted, made thread from] the goat [she-goat, female goat] hair [fibers, threads]. word study 27 The leaders [high-ranking officials, captains] brought onyx stones [precious gemstones, possibly green or blue] and gemstones [stones to be set, for the ephod] to mount on the ephod [a special vest worn by priests] and breastpiece [a sacred pouch, the breastplate], word study 28 as well as spices [sweet perfumes, fragrant aromas] and olive oil [ointment] for the light [happiness, cheerfulness], for the anointing [consecrated, holy] oil, and for the fragrant [sweet, pleasing] incense [a pleasing aroma to God]. word study 29 So all [every single one] the men and women [male and female] of the Israelites [descendants of Jacob] whose hearts [inner being, mind, and spirit] prompted them [moved with willingness, freely] brought a freewill offering [voluntary gift, spontaneous donation] to the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] for all the work [task, labor, and service] that the LORD [the sovereign Lord] through Moses [the appointed leader] had commanded them [given orders, instructed] to do [perform, accomplish]. word study 30 Then Moses [the Israelite leader] said to the Israelites [children of Israel], “See [behold, look], the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] has called [summoned, chosen] by name [specifically, personally] Bezalel [in the shadow of God] son of Uri [meaning fiery], the son of Hur [a personal name], of the tribe [a group of people] of Judah [the name of the tribe descended from Judah]. word study 31 And He has filled [completely controlled, enabled] him with the Spirit [the breath of life] of God [Elohim, the supreme God], with skill [wisdom], ability [creativity, expertise], and knowledge [understanding] in all [every kind of] kinds of craftsmanship [workmanship, employment], word study 32 to design [devise, plan] artistic works [curious, skilful, beautiful things] in gold [a valuable metal], silver [precious, wealth], and bronze [copper, base metal], word study 33 to cut gemstones [precious stones, jewels] for settings [to set them, in mountings], and to carve [engrave, work with] wood [trees, timber], so that he may be a master [skilled craftsman, artisan] of every artistic [skilful, cunning] craft [work, employment, a work of design]. word study 34 And the LORD [the supreme God, Yehovah] has given [put, bestowed] both him and Oholiab [Father’s tent, a skilled craftsman] son of Ahisamach, of the tribe [a division of the Israelites] of Dan [a son of Jacob, a skilled people], the ability [power, skill] to teach [direct, show, instruct] others [those who are to learn, disciples]. word study 35 He has filled [given wisdom of heart, instructed with wisdom] them with skill [wisdom of heart, knowledge of all the arts] to do all kinds of work [all manner of workmanship, every kind of craft] as engravers [skilful workmen, artificers], designers [cunning workmen], embroiderers [needleworkers] in blue [blue or violet], purple [royal purple], and scarlet [deep red, crimson] yarn and fine linen [the best linen], and as weavers [those who weave or plait]—as artistic designers [skilled designers, devisers] of every kind of craft [all manner of work, cunning works]. word study
