Psalms 29

1 Ascribe [give, honor] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], O heavenly beings [sons of the mighty, children of God], ascribe [give, honor] to the LORD glory [great honor, splendor] and strength [power, might]. word study 2 Ascribe [give, acknowledge] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] the glory [great honor, splendor] due His name [identity, character]; worship [bow down, reverence] the LORD [the supreme God] in the splendor [beauty, holy array] of His holiness [set-apart nature, sanctity]. word study 3 The voice [sound or utterance] of the LORD [Yehovah, the God of Israel] is over [above or upon] the waters [oceans or seas]; the God [Elohim, the powerful One] of glory [great honor or splendor] thunders [roars or makes a loud noise]; the LORD is heard [perceived or listened to] over many [numerous or abundant] waters [rivers or streams]. word study 4 The voice [sound, utterance] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is powerful [full of strength, might]; the voice [sound, utterance] of the LORD is majestic [full of glory, beauty, having noble sound]. word study 5 The voice [sound, utterance] of the LORD [Yehovah] breaks [shatters, splits] the cedars [trees of strength, durability]; the LORD [the supreme God] shatters [breaks in pieces, ruptures] the cedars [mighty trees] of Lebanon [the white mountain]. word study 6 He makes [causes to leap, to jump with joy] Lebanon [a mountain range in Israel, known for its white snow] skip [to dance, to jump about] like [in the manner of] a calf [a young male, nearly grown], and Sirion [another name for Mount Hermon, a peak in the Lebanon mountains] like [similar to, comparable to] a young [strong, vigorous] wild ox [a large and powerful animal, now extinct, also referred to as a unicorn]. word study 7 The voice [sound or utterance] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] strikes [divideth, cleaveth, or heweth] with flames [fiery flashes or lightning] of fire [burning, flame]. word study 8 The voice [sound, utterance] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] shakes [causes to tremble, twists] the wilderness [desert, open field]; the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] shakes [causes to tremble, twists] the Wilderness [desert, open field] of Kadesh [a holy place, a city in southern Judah]. word study 9 The voice [sound, utterance] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] twists [causes to calve, brings to birth] the oaks [huge trees] and strips the forests [copse of bushes, woodland] bare [makes bare, uncovers]. And in His temple [large public building, sacred place] all [everything, the whole congregation] cry, “Glory [great honor, splendor]!” word study 10 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] sits enthroned [as King, in sovereign power] over the flood [the massive deluge, like Noah’s flood]; the LORD is enthroned [remains, abides] as King [the supreme ruler, sovereign] forever [for all eternity, always]. word study 11 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] gives [to put, or set] His people [a nation, or a group of people] strength [physical power, social status, or boldness]; the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] blesses [to praise, or honor] His people [a nation, or a group of people] with peace [completeness, wellness, and friendship, or shalom]. word study
