1 To You, O LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], I call [cry out to, invoke]; be not [do not, lest you] deaf [silent, unresponsive] to me, O my Rock [strong refuge, fortress]. For if You remain [are, continue to be] silent [unanswering, unresponsive], I will be like [compared to, similar to] those descending [going down, falling] to the Pit [cistern, underground grave]. word study 2 Hear [listen attentively, obey] my cry [voice of supplication, heartfelt prayer] for mercy [compassion, lovingkindness] when I call [cry out, shout] to You for help [assistance, rescue], when I lift [raise, elevate] up my hands [an open hand; strength, a side or share] toward [in the direction of, facing] Your holy [set apart, sanctified] sanctuary [innermost temple, divine presence]. word study 3 Do not [refuse to, let not be] drag me away with the [morally wrong, guilty of sin] wicked, and with the [habitually doing evil] workers of iniquity, who speak [communicate, utter words of] peace [completeness, wellness, friendship] to their neighbors [those near, companions] while [at the same time, yet] malice [moral evil, wickedness, trouble] is in their [innermost, spiritual] hearts. word study 4 Repay them according to their deeds [works, actions] and for their works of evil [wickedness, morally bad actions]. Repay them for what their hands [power, strength] have done; bring back on them what they deserve [their recompense, reward]. word study 5 Since they show [have or demonstrate] no regard [or respect, consideration] for the works [deeds, actions] of the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God] or what His hands [an open hand; strength, a side or share] have done [accomplished, created], He will tear [overthrow, destroy] them down and never [not at all] rebuild [restore, reestablish] them. word study 6 Blessed [praised, worshiped] be the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God], for He has heard [listened, given attention to] my cry [voice, supplication] for mercy [help, favor, supplications]. word study 7 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is my strength [might, power] and my shield [protection, defense]; my heart [feelings, will, and intellect] trusts [has confidence, faith] in Him, and I am helped [assisted, aided]. Therefore my heart [inner being] rejoices [exults, jumps for joy], and I give thanks [praise, worship] to Him with my song. word study 8 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is the strength [power, might, or boldness] of His people, a stronghold [secure refuge, rock, or harbor] of salvation [deliverance, victory, or prosperity] for His anointed [Messiah, set apart one, or king]. word study 9 Save [rescue, deliver] Your people [nation, those who belong to You] and bless [praise, honor] Your inheritance [heritage, what You possess]; shepherd [care for, tend to] them and carry [lift, bear] them forever [always, eternally]. word study
