Psalms 72
BSA1 Endow [give, grant, bestow upon] the king [ruler, monarch, sovereign] with Your [God’s, divine] justice [righteous judgment, fairness], O God [Elohim, the supreme God], and the son [offspring, descendant, heir] of the king [ruler, monarch] with Your [God’s, divine] righteousness [virtue, morality, integrity]. word study 2 May he judge [govern, rule with wisdom] Your people [nation, those belonging to You] with righteousness [justice, moral integrity] and Your afflicted [poor, humble, weak ones] with justice [fairness, judgment]. word study 3 May the mountains [hills] bring peace [shalom, completeness and wellness] to the people [a nation, community], and the hills [small hills] bring righteousness [justice, virtue, morality]. word study 4 May he vindicate [judge, avenge] the afflicted [poor, humble, weak] among the people [nation, community]; may he save [rescue, deliver] the children [sons, descendants] of the needy [poor, oppressed] and crush [break, bruise] the oppressor [violent, defrauder]. word study 5 May they fear [revere, stand in awe of] him as long as the sun [the celestial body] shines, as long as the moon [the natural satellite] remains, through all [successive, from generation to generation] generations [dor, a period of time or a group of people]. word study 6 May he be like rain [refreshing and life-giving] that falls on freshly cut grass [mown grass, fleece], like spring showers [heavy rain, abundant blessings] that water [nourish and replenish] the earth [land, territory]. word study 7 May the righteous [just, upright, made right with God] flourish [bloom, sprout, break forth] in his days [period of time, era, reign] and prosperity [abundance, greatness, peace] abound [be plentiful, thrive], until [as far as, till the point when] the moon [natural satellite, lunar cycle] is no more [ceases to exist, comes to an end, without]. word study 8 May he rule [have dominion, be in control] from sea [a large body of water] to sea [the western sea, the ocean], and from the Euphrates [a river, a flood] to the ends [the soles of the feet, the extremities] of the earth [the land, the world, the material realm]. word study 9 May the nomads [wild beast, desert-dwellers, inhabitants of the dry places] bow [kneel, sink down in reverence] before him, and his enemies [those who hate or oppose him] lick [bite, taste] the dust [dry earth, clay]. word study 10 May the kings [rulers, monarchs] of Tarshish [a place on the Mediterranean] and distant shores [coastlands, islands] bring tribute [presents, gifts]; may the kings [royal persons] of Sheba [a region in southern Arabia] and Seba [a country possibly Ethiopia] offer gifts [presents, sacrifices]. word study 11 May all [every, the whole] kings [royal rulers, monarchs] bow down [prostrate themselves, worship] to him and all [every, the whole] nations [Gentile peoples, ethnic groups] serve [obey, work for] him. word study 12 For [because of this reason] he will deliver [rescue, save] the needy [poor, oppressed] who cry out [shout for help, plead] and the afflicted [weak, humble] who have [are without] no helper [support, aid]. word study 13 He will take pity [have compassion, show kindness] on the poor [needy, weak] and needy [oppressed, in need of help] and save [rescue, deliver] the lives [souls, living beings] of the oppressed [those in need, afflicted]. word study 14 He will redeem [save, rescue, or buy back] them from [the midst of] oppression [injury, deceit, or fraud] and violence [cruelty, injustice, or unfair treatment], for their blood [the liquid essential for life] is precious [valuable, rare, or of great worth] in his sight [before his eyes, in his estimation]. word study 15 Long may he live [have a long and prosperous life]! May gold [precious metal] from Sheba [a region in southern Arabia, known for its riches] be given him [as a gift, in abundance]. May people ever pray [intercede, ask for guidance] for him; may they bless [praise, honor] him all day long [continually, every day]. word study 16 May there be an abundance [a plentiful harvest, a wide-stretching field] of grain [corn, wheat] in the land [the earth, a country]; may it sway [shake, flourish] atop the hills [mountains, high places]. May its fruit trees [the fruit thereof] flourish [blossom, thrive] like the forests [trees] of Lebanon [a mountain range], and its people [the children, the citizens] like the grass [vegetation, herb] of the field [the earth, the land]. word study 17 May his name [identity, honor, and character] endure [last, continue] forever [for all eternity, always]; may his name [reputation, fame] continue [be propagated, spread] as long as the sun [the sun; the east or the west] shines. In him [through his power, by his blessing] may all [every, the whole] nations [Gentiles, non-Hebrew peoples] be blessed [praised, honored]; may they call him blessed [happy, fortunate, having God’s favor]. word study 18 Blessed [praised, honored] be the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] God [Elohim, the supreme God], the God [having divine nature] of Israel [the descendants of Jacob], who alone [solely, by Himself] does [accomplishes, performs] marvelous [wondrous, wonderful] deeds [acts, works]. word study 19 And blessed [praise, honor] be His glorious [full of splendor] name [identity, character] forever [always, eternally]; may all [everything, the whole] the earth [land, world] be filled [made full, complete] with His glory [great honor, majesty].
