Psalms 77
BSA1 I cried out [with my voice, even unto him] to God [the Almighty, my Savior]; I cried aloud [to hear me, and he gave ear unto me] to God [my Deliverer, my Helper] to hear me. word study 2 In the day [time of distress, period of trouble] of trouble [sorrow, distress, hardship] I sought [cried out to, prayed to] the Lord [God, Elohim, the supreme God]; through [all during, throughout] the night [darkness, time of testing] my outstretched [stretched out, lifted up] hands [in prayer, supplication] did not grow weary [become tired, slacken]; my soul [inner being, heart] refused [would not, declined] to be comforted [soothed, consoled]. word study 3 I remembered [thought about, pondered] You, O God [Adonay, Lord and Master], and I groaned [was troubled, disquieted]; I mused [reflected, complained] and my spirit [soul, inner being] grew faint [was overwhelmed, numb]. Selah word study 4 You have kept [held open, watching] my eyes from closing [sleep, rest]; I am [overwhelmed, deeply troubled] too troubled [so disturbed, I am moved] to speak [to utter words, to talk]. word study 5 I considered [reflected on, thought about] the days of old [years long past, ancient times], the years [periods of time, ages] long in the past [gone by, of old]. word study 6 At night [in the darkness, during my sleepless hours] I remembered [called to mind, reflected on] my song [music, melody of praise]; in my heart [my inner being, my mind] I mused [communed with myself, thought deeply], and my spirit [my inner self, my soul] pondered [made diligent search, meditated carefully]: word study 7 “Will the Lord [reject, cast off] spurn us forever [to the ages, always] and never [will he be favorable no more, be pleased with us again] show His favor [kindness, pleasure] again? word study 8 Is His loving devotion [merciful kindness, trustworthy love] gone forever [for all time, to all generations]? Has His promise [word, saying] failed [ceased, come to nothing] for all time [forevermore, permanently]? word study 9 Has God [the Almighty, Creator] forgotten [failed to remember, ceased] to be gracious [kind, merciful, showing pity]? Has His anger [wrath, displeasure] shut off [withheld, ceased] His compassion [tender mercies, loving-kindness]?” Selah word study 10 So I said, “I am grieved [deeply sorrowful, troubled in spirit] that the right hand of the Most High [the Almighty, God of heaven] has changed [been altered, no longer consistent].” word study 11 I will remember [keep in mind, recall to heart] the works [deeds, mighty acts] of the LORD [Jah, the self-existent One]; yes, I will remember [make mention of, call to mind] Your wonders [miraculous deeds, marvelous works] of old [from long ago, in days of old]. word study 12 I will reflect [meditate, think deeply] on all You have done [accomplished, worked] and ponder [muse, consider] Your [Jah, the LORD] mighty [wonderful, powerful] deeds [acts, works]. word study 13 Your way [in holiness, set apart], O God [the supreme Creator], is holy [set apart, sacred]. What god [divine being, deity] is so great [powerful, mighty] as our God [the one true God, our Redeemer]? word study 14 You are the God [Elohim, the supreme deity] who works [performs, accomplishes] wonders [miraculous signs, amazing feats]; You display [reveal, manifest] Your strength [power, might] among [in the midst of, to] the peoples [nations, Gentiles]. word study 15 With [your strength, divine power] power You [as the mighty God, Elohim] redeemed [saved, set free] Your people [nation], the sons [descendants, seed] of Jacob and Joseph [the chosen ones, Israel]. Selah word study 16 The waters saw [saw with fear, perceived] You, O God [the supreme Creator, Almighty]; the waters saw You [with awe, reverence] and swirled [were afraid, trembled]; even the depths [the deepest parts, the abyss] were shaken [troubled, convulsed]. word study 17 The clouds [thick clouds, pouring out water] poured down water [liquid refreshment, source of life]; the skies [heavens, the atmosphere] resounded [sent out a sound, gave forth a noise] with thunder [a loud rumbling sound]; Your arrows [lightning, flashes of light] flashed back and forth [went abroad, flew like arrows]. word study 18 Your thunder [voice of power] resounded in the whirlwind [a violent storm]; the lightning [flashes of light] lit up the world [the entire sky]; the earth [the land, the material world] trembled and quaked [shook violently]. word study 19 Your path [through the deep, in the great waters] led through the sea [the mighty, turbulent waters], Your way [in the great waters] through the mighty waters [the great, powerful deep], but Your footprints [tracks, footsteps] were not to be found [not known, invisible]. word study 20 You led [guided, directed] Your people [nation, congregation] like a flock [sheep, herd] by the hand [guidance, leadership] of Moses [as a deliverer] and Aaron [as a high priest]. word study
