Song of Solomon 6
BSA1 Where [in what direction, to what place] has your beloved [loved one, dear one] gone, O most beautiful [fair, lovely] among women [females, wives]? Which way [direction, path] has he turned [changed course, faced]? We will seek [search, look for] him with [together, in company] you. word study 2 My beloved [dearly loved one, uncle] has gone down [descended to a lower place] to his garden [enclosed area], to the beds [raised areas of land, furrows] of spices [sweet perfume, balsam plant], to pasture [care for, tend to] his flock [those under his care] in the gardens [enclosed areas, places of growth] and to gather [pick up, collect] lilies. word study 3 I [as a devoted lover] belong to my beloved [my loved one, dear to me] and he belongs to me; he pastures [feeds, takes care of] his flock [those under his care] among the lilies. word study 4 You [my love, my dear] are as beautiful [fair, lovely], my darling [female companion, maiden], as Tirzah [the capital city of Israel], as lovely [comely, pleasant] as Jerusalem [the city of peace], as majestic [terrible, awe-inspiring] as troops [an army, a battalion] with banners [flags, standards]. word study 5 Turn [away from me, avert your gaze] your eyes [the windows of your soul] away from me, for they have [completely, utterly] overcome me. Your hair [locks, tresses] is like [resembling, similar to] a flock [a group, a herd] of goats [female goats, she-goats] streaming [flowing, descending] down from [out of, originating in] Gilead [a mountainous region, a rocky terrain]. word study 6 Your teeth [like ivory] are like a flock [of ewes, female sheep] of sheep coming up from the washing [a bathing place, ritual cleansing]; each has its twin [is double, paired together], and not one of them is lost [childless, bereaved, without a match]. word study 7 Your brow [temple area, above the ear] behind your veil [head covering, a sign of modesty] is like [resembling, comparable to] a slice [piece, half] of pomegranate [a fruit]. word study 8 There are sixty [threescore, a large quantity] queens [female rulers, women of royal status] and eighty [fourscore, a multitude] concubines [slave wives, women in a subordinate relationship], and maidens [young, unmarried women, virgins] without number [countless, innumerable], word study 9 but my dove [my beloved, my perfect love], my perfect one [my undefiled, my complete one], is unique [one and only, special], the favorite [the choice one, the dearest one] of the mother [the one who gave birth to her] who bore her [who gave her life]. The maidens [daughters, young women] see her and call her blessed [pronounce her happy, say she is fortunate]; the queens [female rulers, royal women] and concubines [women who live with a man but are not his wife] sing her praises [celebrate her, recognize her beauty]. word study 10 Who is this [the beloved, the radiant one] who shines [looks forth, gazes out] like the dawn [at the break of day], as fair [beautiful, lovely] as the moon [in all its luminescence], as bright [clear, pure] as the sun [in its radiant heat], as majestic [awe-inspiring, terrible] as the stars [an army with banners] in procession [with flags, in grand array]? word study 11 I went down [to a lower place, descended] to the walnut [nut tree, garden of nuts] grove to see [to look, to observe] the blossoms [green plants, greenery] of the valley [brook, low-lying area], to see [to look, to examine] if the vines [grapevines] were budding [to sprout, flourishing] or the pomegranates [pomegranate trees, fruit] were in bloom [blossomed, in flower]. word study 12 Before I realized it [was aware, knew], my desire [soul, living being] had set me [made me like, placed me among] among the royal [noble, princely] chariots [vehicles of war, transportation] of my people [nation, Amaw]. word study 13 Come back, come back, O Shulammite [Shulamite, woman]! Come back, come back, that we may gaze upon you [look upon you, see you]. The Bridegroom Why do you look at [desire to gaze at, want to see] the Shulammite, as on the dance [sword-dance] of Mahanaim [two camps, two armies]? word study
