Context — God’s Anger against Solomon
11Then the LORD said to Solomon, “Because you have done this and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.
12Nevertheless, for the sake of your father David, I will not do it during your lifetime; I will tear it out of the hand of your son. 13Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom away from him. I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”Cross References

1 Kings 11:11 Summary
This verse means that God is very serious about His commands and will judge those who disobey Him, as seen in 1 Kings 11:11. Solomon, the king of Israel, had turned his heart away from God and was worshiping other gods, which is why God decided to take the kingdom away from him. However, because of God's love for Solomon's father, David, He chose to spare the kingdom for a little while longer, as stated in 1 Kings 11:12. This story teaches us that God is a God of justice and mercy, and that we should always strive to obey His commands, as encouraged in Deuteronomy 10:12-13 and Matthew 22:37-40.
