2 Chronicles 4:16 Summary

[This verse, 2 Chronicles 4:16, tells us about the many articles made of polished bronze for the house of the Lord, including pots, shovels, and meat forks, which were all made with great care and attention to detail, just like the temple itself, as described in 1 Kings 6:7. The use of polished bronze shows the value and importance of the temple and its furnishings. As we read in Hebrews 10:25, we are also called to gather together and serve the Lord with excellence and quality, just like the craftsman Huram-abi. By focusing on quality and excellence, we can reflect the beauty and splendor of God's temple in our own lives and service to Him.]

Frequently Asked Questions

What were the various articles made by Huram-abi for the house of the Lord?

According to 2 Chronicles 4:16, the articles included pots, shovels, meat forks, and all other necessary items, all made of polished bronze, as seen in the context of 2 Chronicles 4:14-15, where the stands, basins, and the Sea are mentioned.

Why were these articles made of polished bronze?

The Bible does not explicitly state why these articles were made of polished bronze in 2 Chronicles 4:16, but it can be inferred that bronze was a valuable and durable material, suitable for the sacred use in the house of the Lord, similar to the bronze altar in Exodus 27:1-2.

Who was Huram-abi and what was his role in making these articles?

Huram-abi was a skilled craftsman who worked for King Solomon, and according to 2 Chronicles 4:16, he made all these objects for the house of the Lord, demonstrating his expertise and artistry, as also seen in 1 Kings 7:13-14 where Huram-abi is described as a skilled bronze worker.

What can we learn from the abundance of bronze articles made for the house of the Lord?

The abundance of bronze articles, as mentioned in 2 Chronicles 4:18, highlights the richness and splendor of the temple, and serves as a reminder of God's provision and the importance of generosity, as seen in Malachi 3:10, where God promises to pour out a blessing if we give generously to Him.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does the attention to detail in the construction of the temple, as seen in 2 Chronicles 4:16, reflect the character of God and our worship of Him?
  2. In what ways can I reflect the beauty and splendor of God's temple in my own life and service to Him, as inspired by the polished bronze articles?
  3. What does the use of polished bronze in the temple articles teach me about the value and importance of quality and excellence in my own work and service to the Lord?
  4. How can I, like Huram-abi, use my skills and talents to serve the Lord and contribute to the building of His kingdom, as seen in 1 Corinthians 12:4-7?

2 Chronicles 4:16 The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of bright brass.Ver. 16. Did Huram his father,] i.e., Whom Solomon called father for his age and great worth.

Ellicott's Commentary on 2 Chronicles 4:16

(16) The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks.—“Fleshhooks” (mizlβgτth) should apparently be “bowls” (mizrβqτth). (Comp. 2 Chronicles 4:1, and 1 Kings 7:45.) But in Exodus 27:3, pots and shovels and bowls and fleshhooks are mentioned in succession as utensils of the altar. Perhaps, therefore, both words should be read here and in Kings. LXX., καὶτοὺςποδιστήραςκαὶτοὺςἀναλημπτῆραςκαὶτοὺςλέβηταςκαὶτὰςκρεάγρας . The Vulg. merely repeats 2 Chronicles 4:11 (et lebetes et creagras et phialas). A stop should follow the last; “And all their instruments,” &c., being a new sentence. And all their instruments.—1 Kings 7:45, and all these instruments, which appears correct, though the LXX. supports our present reading (πάντατὰσκέυηαὐτῶν). “Their instruments” could hardly mean the moulds in which they were cast, as Zφckler suggests. The moulds would not be made in “polished brass.” Huram his father.—See Note on 2 Chronicles 2:13. Bright.—Polished. Jeremiah 46:4 (mβrϋq). Kings has the synonym mĕ ?mτrβt. (Comp. Isaiah 18:2.)
