2 Samuel 23:17 Summary
[David refused to drink the water brought by the three mighty men because it was obtained at great personal risk to their lives, and he considered it to be like drinking their blood, as seen in 2 Samuel 23:17. This shows that David valued the lives of his men and was unwilling to benefit from their risk. He poured out the water to the Lord, as an act of worship and gratitude, similar to the way we are called to honor God with our lives and sacrifices, as seen in Romans 12:1. By doing so, David demonstrated his humility and integrity, and set an example for us to follow, as we are encouraged to 'outdo one another in showing honor' in Romans 12:10.]
