Context — God’s Glory Exits the Temple
18Then the glory of the LORD moved away from the threshold of the temple and stood above the cherubim.
19As I watched, the cherubim lifted their wings and rose up from the ground, with the wheels beside them as they went. And they stopped at the entrance of the east gate of the house of the LORD, with the glory of the God of Israel above them. 20These were the living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel by the River Kebar, and I knew that they were cherubim.Cross References

Ezekiel 10:18 Summary
Ezekiel 10:18 tells us that the glory of the LORD, which represents God's presence and power, moved away from the temple and stood above the cherubim. This movement signifies a change in God's focus or attention, possibly due to the actions of His people, as seen in other parts of the Bible like 1 Samuel 4:21. It reminds us that God's presence is not static and can move in response to our obedience or disobedience (Psalm 51:11). By understanding this, we can reflect on our own relationship with God and strive to maintain a pure heart and faithful spirit, just as God desires (Matthew 5:8).
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the significance of the glory of the LORD moving away from the threshold of the temple?
The movement of God's glory signifies a shift in His presence and attention, often in response to the actions of His people, as seen in Ezekiel 10:18 and also in 1 Samuel 4:21 where the glory of the LORD departed from Israel.
What is the relationship between the glory of the LORD and the cherubim?
