Context — The Desolation of Israel
20His beautiful ornaments they transformed into pride and used them to fashion their vile images and detestable idols. Therefore I will make these into something unclean for them.
21And I will hand these things over as plunder to foreigners and loot to the wicked of the earth, who will defile them. 22I will turn My face away from them, and they will defile My treasured place. Violent men will enter it, and they will defile it.Cross References

Ezekiel 7:20 Summary
[This verse is saying that God's people took the beautiful things He had given them and used them for bad things, like making idols and worshiping false gods. This made God very sad and angry, as we see in Ezekiel 7:20. He wants us to use the good things He gives us to honor Him, not to sin against Him, as also taught in 1 Corinthians 10:31. We should be careful not to let the good things in our lives become idols that take our attention away from God.]
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean that God's people transformed His beautiful ornaments into pride?
This refers to how God's people took the beautiful things He had given them and used them for their own selfish and idolatrous purposes, rather than giving Him the glory, as seen in Ezekiel 7:20 and also in Romans 1:21-23 where it says they became futile in their speculations and their foolish heart was darkened.
What are the vile images and detestable idols mentioned in this verse?
These refer to the idols and false gods that God's people began to worship instead of the one true God, as also mentioned in Deuteronomy 32:16 and Psalm 78:58, where it is clear that God is a jealous God and will not share His glory with anyone else.
Why will God make these ornaments unclean for them?
God will make these things unclean because they were used for idolatrous purposes, and He wants to show His people that these things are not worthy of their devotion, as seen in Ezekiel 7:20 and also in Isaiah 2:8 where it says they bow down to the work of their hands.
How does this verse relate to the concept of stewardship?
This verse highlights the importance of using the resources and gifts God has given us in a way that honors Him, rather than using them for our own selfish purposes, as also taught in Matthew 25:14-30 and 1 Corinthians 4:2 where it is clear that we will be held accountable for how we use what God has given us.
