Leviticus 16:18 Summary
In Leviticus 16:18, Aaron is instructed to take the blood of the bull and the goat and put it on the horns of the altar to make atonement for it. This means that the altar, which represents the place of worship and sacrifice, needed to be cleansed from the sins of the people. Just like the altar, our hearts need to be cleansed from sin, and this is done through faith in Jesus Christ, who is our ultimate atonement (Romans 3:25, Hebrews 9:11-14). By trusting in Jesus, we can be cleansed from our sins and restored to a right relationship with God.

Why did Aaron need to take blood from both the bull and the goat?

What does it mean to 'make atonement' for the altar?
To make atonement means to purify and cleanse the altar from the sins of the people, restoring its holiness and purity, as seen in Leviticus 16:20, and preparing it for the worship and sacrifices of the people, as stated in Exodus 29:36-37.
How does this verse relate to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ?
The sacrifice of Jesus Christ is seen as the ultimate atonement for the sins of humanity, as stated in Hebrews 9:11-14, and the blood of Christ is seen as the ultimate cleansing agent, as seen in 1 John 1:7, just as the blood of the bull and the goat were used to cleanse the altar in Leviticus 16:18.
