Leviticus 8:9 Summary
In Leviticus 8:9, Moses puts a special hat called a turban on Aaron's head, along with a gold plate, to show that Aaron is now the high priest and is dedicated to serving God. This is like when we put on a uniform or a badge to show what team we're on or what job we do. Just like Aaron, we are all called to serve God and be separated unto Him, as seen in Romans 12:1-2. By following God's commands and trusting in His sovereignty, we can live out our own unique calling and bring glory to His name, just like Aaron did as the high priest.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the significance of the turban and gold plate in Leviticus 8:9?
The turban and gold plate, also known as the holy diadem, symbolize Aaron's role as high priest and his separation unto God, as commanded in Exodus 28:36-37, and remind us of the importance of humility and reverence in our own service to God, as seen in 1 Peter 5:5-6.
Why did Moses have to put the turban on Aaron's head, couldn't Aaron have done it himself?
Moses was acting as the mediator between God and Aaron, and his actions were a demonstration of God's sovereignty and Aaron's submission, as seen in Leviticus 8:12, where Moses also anoints Aaron, emphasizing the importance of divine appointment and ordination, as taught in Hebrews 5:4.
What does the phrase 'as the LORD had commanded him' mean in this context?
This phrase emphasizes Moses' obedience to God's instructions, as given in Exodus 28:1-5 and other passages, and highlights the importance of following God's commands in our own lives, as taught in Deuteronomy 5:32-33 and John 14:15.
How does this verse relate to the broader theme of priesthood in the Bible?
Leviticus 8:9 is part of the larger narrative of the establishment of the Aaronic priesthood, which points forward to the ultimate high priest, Jesus Christ, who offers Himself as the perfect sacrifice, as seen in Hebrews 7:26-28 and 10:11-14, and reminds us of our own role as priests unto God, as taught in 1 Peter 2:9-10.
