12. Before Pilate. Matthew 27:1. This lesson brings us to the closing year of the work of Christ on earth, and his work around Jerusalem before he was crucified. We find him invited to a feast at the home of Simon, then marching into Jerusalem on a colt; cursing the fig tree, and his wonderful lessons in the temple at Jerusalem.
Then we find his parable taught about the ten virgins, his warning, and the council of the Jewish rulers.
After this we find the treachery of Judas, and the last supper in which the Son of God instituted the Lord’s Supper to be perpetuated in his church.
Then we find his terrible agony in the garden, his arrest, his appearance before Annas, and before Caiaphas where he was condemned and sent to Pilate to have his sentence of death confirmed, after which he was turned over to the soldiers to be crucified.
