18. His ascension. Luke 24:50-51. This lesson brings us around the cross, there to study the events that had been foretold for 1500 years, and to learn the things that must be preached in all the world. Christ starts to the place of crucifixion, carrying his own cross, but gives down under its weight, and the burden is placed upon an¬other to carry for him. He is then placed on the cross with his accusation over him, stating that he was the king of the Jews.

They gave him vinegar to drink, and divided his garments among them. The passers-by mocked him. One of the thieves repented his wrongs and asked to be remembered in his kingdom. The veil was rent, the sun refused to shine, the centurion declared he must be the Son of God.

He was buried in Joseph’s new tomb, a guard was placed around the grave; an angel rolled the stone away, Jesus arose from the dead, and ap¬peared at eleven different times. He gave the great commission, then ascended to his Father. He was after this seen of Paul. The disciples went to Jerusalem and remained there for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, that Christ had promised them to enable them to preach the gospel to all the world. This closes the life work of Christ on earth.
