Psalms 96:1

O Sing unto the Lord a new song] 1 Chron. 16. 23. Psalms 33:3. The prophet sheweth, that the time shall come, that all nations shall have occasion to praise the LORD for the revealing of his Gospel.

Psalms 96:4

For the Lord is great] Seeing he will reveal his greatnesse to all nations, contrary to their own expectation, they ought all to worship him, contrary to their own imaginations, and onely as he hath appointed.

to be praised] Psalms 18:3.

above all gods] Psalms 95:3.

Psalms 96:5

For all the gods of the nations are idols] Jeremy 10. 11.

but the Lord made the heavens] Then the idols, or whatsoever made not the heavens, are not God.

Psalms 96:6

Honour and majestie are before him] God cannot be known but by the tokens of his honour and majesty, which are seen principally in his sanctuary.

Psalms 96:7

Give unto the Lord, O ye kiweds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength.] Psal. 29. 1, 2.

give unto the Lord glory and strength] As by experience ye see that it is onely due to him.

Psalms 96:8

due unto his name] Heb. of his name.

bring an offering] By presenting your selves before God, declare, that ye worship him onely, Psalms 68:29. Isaiah 16:1.

Psalms 96:9

in the beauty of holinesse] Or, in the glorious sanctuary.

Psalms 96:10

Say among the heathen] He prophesieth, that the Gentiles shall be partakers, with the Jews, of Gods promise, Rom. 15. 9, &c.

the Lord reigneth] Psalms 93:1. and Psalms 97:1.

righteously] Heb. in righteousnesses: That is, most righteously.

Psalms 96:11

Let the heavens rejoyce, and let the earth be glad] Psalms 98:7.

Psalms 96:12

then shall all the trees of the wood rejoyce] If the insensible creatures shall have cause to rejoyce, when God appeareth, then much more we.
