Ezekiel 42

1 the chamber. “The chambers.”

5 the galleries were higher than these. The upper storeys had corridors, the breadth of which was taken out of the rooms themselves, making them so much the narrower: see next verse.

6 therefore [the building] was straitened, etc. “The top storey was contracted” (Moffatt).

10 in the thickness of the wall. In the breadth of the wall; i.e., the breadth of the ground which that wall enclosed. The Septuagint reads “south” for “east.”

11 according to their fashions. Like the chambers already described.

14 those things which are for the people. i.e., to the outer court.

16 five hundred reeds. A “reed” being about 10 feet (xl. 5), 500 of these would make a length of 5,000 feet, or nearly a mile: and give a circumference of more than four miles.
